Fine players such as Brian Setzer, Bo Diddley, and the late great Chet Atkins have played Gretsch guitars for years. The name has become synonymous with classic archtop guitars, but the G604MCSS takes a twist while keeping in line with a working musician's budget.
The G6040MCSS is a customized version of Gretsch's original 400C Synchromatic, with the addition of a FilterTron pickup. The FilterTron pickup features dual-coils that are designed to filter out the electronic hum normally associated with single-coil pickups, while adding a warmer tone and a significantly increasing the output and sustain. The body is made of choice pieces of spruce and flamed maple - the go-to tonewoods for quality archtops. The Synchromatic has a mellow, crisp tone suited perfected for jazz and rockabilly.
Gretsch has employed some of their signature designs to produce a line that is unique without sacrificing functionality. The chromatic tailpiece is designed to compensate for differing string gauges, thereby reducing tension and equalizing playing finger pressure. The tailpiece makes playing easier with uniform finger action. The synchromatic bridge is graduated to provide progressively broader contact between the vibrating strings and the top, or sounding board. The result is perfect harmonious balance between the fast vibrating treble strings and slower vibrating bass strings.
This guitar is in fantastic condition. There are some minor surface scratches on the headstock overlay and some light playing wear on the pickguard. The frets have some slight playing wear in the first position. The entire guitar is fully bound in ivoroid. With the vintage stylings of gold hardware and a bound tortoise pickguard, this beauty is sure to stand up to both your style and your budget.
