The more familiar we become with Collings fans, the more we realize that projection and volume are keys components. With this in mind, we commissioned this bluegrass powerhouse. The D2HG features a German Spruce top, Adirondack Spruce top bracing, and the absence of a tongue brace. These core changes hark back to the way early 14-fret dreadnoughts were built. The bracing pattern and construction allows for even more headroom and projection then the standard model - making it a flatpicker's dream. The top is open, responsive, and up to about any challenge you have in mind.
While Collings is certainly not the first to build 14-fret dreadnoughts, they bring a new tonal clarity to the depth and warmth usually associated with such a large, deep-bodied guitar. German Spruce adds a lush, defined tone without sacrificing clarity at high volumes. German Spruce is perfect for players who may find Adirondack Spruce a touch too stiff, but play far to aggresive for Sitka Spruce. The choice of Indian Rosewood as a back wood brings warmth and complexity to the overtones. With the response this has gotten around the store, we will most certainly be ordering another one soon!
