First, let me say that I understand the X is not for everyone... it's too different, too "outside the box", even too cool in some cases. Next, I have to say that no other guitar could have come close to being exactly what I was looking for and, surprisingly, way beyond my wildest expectations. The X is strikingly beautiful but it's the sound that ultimately blew my mind. How can this balanced, warm, sustained tone come from this guitar barely over three inches deep? I'm glad CA figured it out. I've been gigging with it for a week and a half... ever since I got it. It turns heads and commands ears to listen. It?s a great guitar, period. I bought it primarily as a bullet proof guitar that I wouldn?t have to worry about when traveling or camping etc. The bonus is that it really is a great sounding versatile guitar. My new CA guitar arrived yesterday as expected. After I had the case all unwrapped and unsnapped, I jumped up as the cover slowly opened to reveal my new C.O.T. -- I can honestly say, it was everything I was hoping for. I spent the rest of last night playing and getting ready for practice at church... Finally, practice ended and it was time to share my new toy with the other pickers... There was a couple that had been skeptical when I said I was buying a guitar that did not have a piece of wood in it. Skepticism was hard to find after they heard the music.

This is it! The real deal. And what a sound. The guitar is absolutely beautiful! I started finger picking and the sound that came out of that instrument was unbelievable! The echo quality was like no other guitar I played. I have played Nationals before, but this one seemed the sweetest. Then I broke out the slide, and that baby opened up! No other guitar I own plays and sounds like that. All of the "high fidelity" analog recordings do it injustice. It was made for slide. I have been told they sound even better with time! I am absolutely satisfied with my purchase! Thanks for letting me realize my dream. She sounds simply awesome. It's incredible really. Projection is the word for this guitar. It's sooo light that I can't believe it. So much sound from such a light guitar...it plays beautifully. The notes are crystal clear! I LOVE the look of the guitar... that finish is like a mirror. I'm glad I went with the F model and the cutaway. Never had an acoustic with a cutaway. LOVE the message from Mr. Hoover...really appreciate that...and the gig bag as well. That was so nice of you to do. You can tell SCGC loves what they do. The bluegrass performer is nothing short of revolutionary the tone is amazing all the way across the fretboard. Simply put I LOVE IT. The Radio-Tone arrived safe and sound - no problems at all?. Now, the guitar: (1) Looks - beautiful; (2) Sound - holy cow! I recently played an Estralita Deluxe in a somewhat local store. Of course, I really liked the sound but, not being on my home turf, it was hard to judge just how good it was. I knew it was miles ahead of the Dobro I've been playing for years, I just couldn't tell how many miles. Anyway, I had my heart set on the Radio-Tone Bend-Away and, based on the quality of the Estralita, was willing to take the risk of buying it long distance - strings unplucked, so to speak. I give the background to help explain why I am in absolute awe of (as opposed to merely very happy with) the sound of this guitar. Playing it here, and being able to compare it directly to my Dobro, I still can't get over the size, depth and balance of the sound. It makes the Dobro sound like a toy. In other words, thank you for letting me buy this guitar from you! You were absolutely fantastic to do business with. Thanks for the immediate responses to my inquiries. Thanks for the great price. Thank you again for your help with my purchase of a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model. It is truly the finest sounding instrument I have ever played. Although there are many wonderful guitars the Tony Rice Santa Cruz definitely sets the standard in tone and raises the bar for how an acoustic guitar should sound and play. I have played many fine guitars but this guitar has a presence of sound that inspires both player and partners to explore new territory in any genre firmly supported on a platform of consistent tone and sustain. It is the sonic equivalent to a sunrise across the great divide of the Rocky Mountains. After playing it myself I quickly gathered up the fiercest traditionalists of acoustic music I know and we began to play. After twelve hours we left our instruments to rest and loaded our torn fingers and warm hearts in a van to watch the sunrise from Independence Pass at 11998 feet. The mountains were purple at dawn changing slowly to red then pink highlighted by a light dusting of the winter that is to come. My friend Amos, who started playing the fiddle in high school and forgot to do anything else for the last twenty years, turned to me on the drive home and said "ya know what I think that new guitar of yours sounds better than a sunrise."?..When I play I go back to the place where it all began before sight, taste, touch or smell even existed when sound came through soft and warm to welcome me to the world. I am deeply grateful to Bill Warmoth and Artisan guitars for their help in finding my new best friend and to Richard Hoover and the folks at the Santa Cruz Guitar company for building it. I have known, as many others do, that the Santa Cruz Tony Rice model is a truly fine instrument and after playing one of my very own I have discovered that it has a sound that I have not heard in a long long time. It sounds like coming home.
