SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2009 Bourgeois Custom OMS with Maccassar Ebony and Italian Spruce

2009 Bourgeois Custom OMS with Maccassar Ebony and Italian Spruce

While we at Artisan Guitars try to be as objective as possible, we get attached to certain special guitars. The OMS has quickly become a shop favorite and this pre-owned 2009 OMS is a fine example of why.

Often times we come across guitars that almost look too gorgeous to play. But, when it comes to Maccasar Ebony, you just won’t be able to help yourself. Macassar Ebony boasts a lot of presence with a broad dynamic range. It has a strong bass, lower mids, and incredible sustain.  When coupled with a Bearclaw Italian Spruce top, there is a significant amount of sweet, crisp, and bright tone. Each note carries with complexity and richness.

Fingerstyle players will appreciate the ease of articulation across the entire fretboard, while flatpickers will appreciate the ample headroom and ability to be played a bit harder without a hint of breaking up.  Dana has built a versatile workhorse that plays like dream and is very comfortable for lounging while sounding like a guitar much larger.

This 2009 OMS is in excellent condition and his hard to distinguish used from new. There are just a few light scratches to the back and sides, we did our best to capture these scratches on the sides but were unable to shine the light in a way to make them appear in the photographs. None of the scratches are through the finish. Original Hardshell Case included.

SOLD: National Style 1 German Silver Tricone

Hear This Instrument: National Style 1 German Silver Tricone
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
National Style 1 German Silver Tricone

National Reso-Phonic’s Style 1 Tricone shares many of its features with the original National Tricone created by the Dopyera brothers in the late 1920s. This beauty has, as John Dopera himself once said, Tone that flows like a river.

The tricone design is perfect for players who focus on open tunings and slide. The beauty of the design is the increased sustain without sacrificing any volume. Classic players like Tampa Red heavily relied on the original National Tricone, and he would be pleased to have this one in his hands.

This Style 1 features a Custom German Silver upgrade on the  body and coverplate. German Silver is the same alloy used by the Dopyera Brothers to create the first National Tricone guitars in the late 1920’s.  The body, coverplate, and tailpiece are polished to a mirror-like shine and nickel plated. German Silver produces a bit more clarity and focus than the bell-like brass bodies.  The tone is a bit mellower and more controlled, with a bit less reverberation and overtones and a more extended low end.

ON LAYAWAY: Pre-Owned: 2010 Collings OM1 Sitka Spruce and Mahogany

Hear This Instrument: Collings OM1 Sitka
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2010 Collings OM1 Sitka Spruce and Mahogany

Whether it be for couch playing or a live stage, this 2010 Collings OM1 is an easy guitar to play anywhere, in any style.  Fingerstylists and flatpickers will both appreciate the Sitka Spruce top and the lush sound that it produces.  Sitka is much softer and more flexible than Adirondack so it doesn't require as much force to drive it, while it also holds up to a moderately heavy pick attack.  Sitka is known for having lush, blooming basses and this is evident on this Collings OM1, as it produces a rich, warm sound with a clear high end thanks to the mahogany back and sides.  A custom nut width of 1 3/4" gives you plenty of room for complex chord shapes.

Hard to distinguish used from new this 2010 Collings OM1 is in absolute pristine with no scratches or dings to note. Hardshell Case Included.

SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2010 National Style 1 Tricone Brass Body with Bright Nickel Finish

Hear This Instrument: National Style 1 Tricone Brass Body with Bright Nickel Finish
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2010 National Style 1 Tricone Brass Body with Bright Nickel Finish

It is always good to have a National brass Tri-cone hanging here in the shop. The problem is; they never last long! The nickel plated brass body and the three cones have a distinctive sound that is all their own. Nothing sounds like a National Style 1 Tricone, this is a big reason why many feel that this is the ultimate resonator guitar.

In a Tricone instrument, the three cones are set in a triangle configuration. Two of the cones are on the bass side and one on the treble. An innovative "T" shaped bridge connects to the center of each cone, which in turn has a maple saddle sitting atop the bridge. In a single resonator guitar, the maple biscuit sits atop the cone and the strings are in direct contact with the cone. On a Tricone the sound is spread out between the cones and contributes to it's unique sound. A Tricone is not as loud on the attack as a single cone, however the sustain is greater and the tone can be defined as "sweeter". The three cones vibrate together and produce more harmonics overall than a single cone.

The brass body is mated to a matte finish mahogany neck with an ivoroid bound ebony fretboard. The ebony board helps to give definition to notes and the mahogany neck feels like a dream. The vintage-style National tuning machines sit on a traditional slotted headstock, topped off with the distinctive National shield decal. Slide notes ring out and sustain for days, chords are mellow and sweet. The nickel finish is polished to a mirror like shine which completes the elegant design.

Hard to distinguish used from new this 2010 Style 1 Tricone is in absolute pristine condition with no major scratches or dings to note. Original Hardshell Case Included.

SOLD: Santa Cruz H13 Custom

Hear This Instrument: Santa Cruz H13 Custom
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Santa Cruz H13 Custom

The Santa Cruz H13, their interpreted adaptation of Gibson's 1937 Nick Lucas, has always been one of our most popular shop models. Despite its small appearance, the Santa Cruz H13 employs a body depth approaching that of a much larger dreadnought-sized guitar, producing superb volume and bass support to bolster its rich tone. With its player-driven design that has 13 frets clear of the body, plus special soundhole and bridge locations, the H-13 capitalizes upon the best attributes of a 12-fret's resonance and a 14-fret's access. The body fits perfectly in your hands, inspiring gorgeous strumming sounds or intricate finger-picked passages.

The bracing pattern is unique to this model, utilizing a hybrid pattern that combines both scalloped and tapered braces. Built upon the standard tone woods of an H-13, it is extremely versatile. The combination of Mahogany and Sitka brings clarity and balance. Sitka is softer than Adirondack spruce which makes it perfect for players that find Adirondack a tad too stiff to accommodate fingerpicking but still want to strum with some authority.

This H13 features custom appointments such as a custom S29 Rossette with matching purfling and backstrip that compliments the sunburst finish beautifully! Also custom on this guitar are the Engraved 3-on-Plate Waverly "Sloan" style tuners with Ivoroid buttons.

SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2004 Santa Cruz OM German Spruce and Indian Rosewood

2004 Santa Cruz OM German Spruce and Indian Rosewood

In the 1920's, the Orchestra Model was originally intended to be a large guitar capable of being heard over other orchestral instruments, hence the OM name. Although it fit the bill, its relatively large body was soon eclipsed by the mighty dreadnought. Fortunately, the OM had secured its place in history as a powerful and versatile voice for public performance. Santa Cruz was among the first modern builders to reintroduce this now smaller bodied favorite at the beginning of the Eighties. Their practice of combining the most desirable attributes of old and new, rather than copying, made for a very successful introduction of the Santa Cruz Guitar Company to a whole new audience. With some irony, this acclaim encouraged the venerable originator of the OM to reintroduce the model to their line. Eric Clapton's historic performance on the debut of MTV Unplugged set us on a course for another 25 years of success with this now perennial favorite.

The Santa Cruz OM is delightfully versatile. Our OM players range from blazing flat picker James Nash to John Mayer and Elvis Costello. The Santa Cruz Guitar Company OM provides clean, loud mid-range and trebles that are complimented by a slightly predominate bass. Deeply appreciated for fingerstyle and contemporary flat picking work, the OM is the number one request from Santa Cruz.

This custom 2004 Santa Cruz OM features a German Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood back and sides. The German Spruce is instantly responsive with lots of overtones.  German is very versatile for many players, offering more stiffness, and therefore more power, than a Sitka Spruce top can provide.

This 2004 Santa Cruz OM is in excellent condition with just a few light scratches to the top and back as well as some light buckle rash on the back of the instrument. There is a small dent to the upper bout on the treble side of the instrument that can be seen in the photographs below. Original TKL Hardshell case included.

SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2007 Bourgeois Slope D Short Scale

2007 Bourgeois Slope D Short Scale

Bourgeois slope shouldered dreadnoughts are only about 1/4" wider than a standard dreadnought... and what a difference! Voiced for a more open, less driving sound than the Country Boy models, the Slope D accommodates a wide variety of playing styles ranging from country to pop covering nearly everything in between. Fingerstyle players love the increased response that the Slope D provides, even when played with bare fingers!

Adirondack Spruce, "the holy grail" of topwoods, drives the top of this powerful 2007 Bourgeois Slope D. Adirondack is generally favored by heavy handed players, and provides nearly unlimited headroom when you need the extra power, yet on this Slope D, also provides a quick and lively response that fingerstyle players aren't accustomed to with traditional dreadnoughts.

This guitar was built with Adirondack top bracing, as are all of Dana's guitars. The sonic benefits can't be ignored, adding not only responsiveness, but a new level of detail and clarity.  The Adirondack Bracing helps to stiffen the top, making it that much more powerful with more headroom and overall volume.

The tone of this guitar is extremely balanced, with a dry, clear note definition and a presence that only Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany can offer.  This guitar practically begs to be placed in front of a microphone... those vintage tones you have heard on recordings for years is right at your fingertips.  Mahogany offers a midrange that historically requires little eq in the recording studio and has become one of the most popular tonewoods for anyone looking for a balanced recording tone that starts with the guitar.

This 2007 Bourgeois Slope D is in excellent condition with just a few minor scratches, to the top, back, and headstock. There is a small 3mm x 5mm dent to the top of the guitar that can be seen in the photographs below.
