SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2007 Custom Bourgeois DBJ Redwood Top With Mahogany Back and Sides

2007 Custom Bourgeois DBJ Redwood Top With Mahogany Back and Sides

While Dana Bourgeois has established a reputation for building fantastic dreadnoughts, the world of fingerstyle guitars does not elude him. This Bourgeois Custom DBJC practically demands to be played with bare fingers or picks, but can stand up beautifully to some light-to-medium strumming as well (braced with Adirondack Red Spruce). Even the most discerning player will be pleasantly delighted as to how responsive this beauty is.

One of the many fine appointments on this guitar is it's Redwood top. Redwood is a dark colored tonewood with lush, dark tones that overflow with complexity and richness. It tends to displays the same general tonal characteristics as Cedar, but leaning slightly toward darker tones. Stiffer than Cedar, it lends itself beautifully to fingerstyle because it is easy to articulate with a light touch, and has a quick decay that allows for good definition, from note to note. Dana takes these characteristics to the next level by tap tuning every top. His years of experience rings true in the ability to maximize the responsiveness of each guitar he builds. Because of the Mahogany back and sides this guitar is extremely versatile and shines, both at fingerstyle playing as well as fingerpicking. This particular guitar has a custom label which reads DADGAD, as the original  of the guitar felt that the specs on this one excelled at drop, and alternate tunings. You can be sure with Cedar and Mahogany combo, it does! Warm, lush, yet defined with great note definition.

Other select appointments on this guitar include Brazilian Rosewood Binding accented with tiny black white pinstripe purfling, Abalone Rosette, signature Snakehead headstock profile with Ebony Overlay, and 16" lower bout width.

This guitar is in mint condition, hard to distinguish used from new there are a just a few very light scratches on the top. Original Hardshell Case Included.

Smith and Young Model 1 Spider Cone Round Neck

There is an art to reproducing guitars from a by-gone era in today's day and age. The folks at National have certainly proven they can not only faithfully recreate historic models, but also update them tastefully with modern day technology & materials that offer improvements.  Today's National ResoPhonic is a constantly evolving company, which is always trying new ideas, reissuing classic models, and pushing the envelope as far as tone is concerned.

For many years, National ResoPhonic has been in research and development of the original Dobro's, as those models were part of the fabric and historic beginning of the original National company founded in 1927.  This is the instrument that spawned an entire industry, a sound, and inspired a tone like nothing else.  The Dobro company was founded in 1929 by brothers John Dopyera, Rudy Dopyera, Ed Dopyera, and Vic Smith. The name "Dobro" represents an early acronym for the Dopyera Brothers, thus: Dobro.

Over the years the company changed ownership many times, and was shuttered from 1942 to 1954, bought by Semi Mosely, then lost, and finally bought by Gibson. Fast forward to today's modern era National ResoPhonic instruments, located in San Luis Obispo, where founder Don Young started his company in 1989.  Having worked for the Dopyera brothers several times during his career, Don is uniquely qualified to recreate these iconic guitars.  We are proud to introduce the newest line of instruments from the Smith and Young  Spider Cone division of National, the Smith and Young Model 1 Spider Cone With A Round Neck!

These instruments incorporate a host of new innovations from our friends at Smith and Young, which make these wholly different from their National ResoPhonic cousins. The string break angle at the bridge has been increased to have a steeper incline, which increases downward pressure on the spider bridge, transferring more energy to the cone.  The result?... Enhanced volume sought after by steel players [read as "LOUD"]!!

With their newly designed hot rod cones, these instruments have an enormous volume in reserve, yet still maintain a sweet singing tone!

The Model I features a light gauge steel body with a vintage nickel "rubbed" finish that only adds to the guitar's traditional mojo and vibe, while the Model II which is maple, is finished in a vintage dark Sunburst that harkens back to the "catalog" guitars from the 40's!

2005 Ryan Guitars Nightingale Grand Soloist with Signature Grade Brazilian Rosewood

Luthier Kevin Ryan has been building these incredibly custom guitars in Westminister, California since 1989. After Graduating high school Kevin began work as a carpenter and cabinetmaker while playing guitar in a band. In the mid-80's Kevin, along with his wife and parents, moved to Southern California to begin a job in research and development at Northrop Grumman Corporation’s aerospace laboratory. Kevin's extreme precision and meticulous eye for detail began to shape while using high-tech tools and creating new designs at the Northrop.

Ryan uses new and innovative technology to accommodate the demand such as scale length to compliment alternate tuning's and lighter bracing. Not only are Ryan Guitars Piece's of Art that are meticulously crafted they are also  known for their extraordinary playability, incredibly rich tone. Ryan guitars are built specifically with fingerstyle players in mind. Some of the fine players of Ryan Guitars include Bob Bennet, Muriel Anderson, Pat Donohue, Jackson Browne, and Peter Finger.

"The Nightingale breaks new ground in sound and comfort. The design goal was simple; create a larger and deeper guitar with attendant rich and complex bass frequencies and sparkling trebles in a body with stylish and advanced ergonomics. With its high and slender waist, its arch-swept back deep in the lower body but shallower where it nestles against you, the Nightingale is inviting and luxurious. The bevel adds the final master touch..." - From Ryan Guitars Website

The Ryan Guitars Nightingale features Signature Grade Brazilian Rosewood back and sides.  Because Brazilian Rosewood sets of this quality are incredibly rare as well as being in extreme demand they are only available in infinitesimally small amounts. Brazilian Rosewood is known for its deep bass and brilliant trebles that was used on the famous vintage guitars we have all grown to love. In a session recording, Brazilian Rosewood will not be as overtone heavy as Indian Rosewood can tend to be. When combined with the Engelmann Spruce top this guitar is incredibly balanced and has a broad dynamic range.

Featuring many custom appointments this guitar features a "Ryan Bevel" that Kevin Ryan himself created.  First introduced in 2002 the Ryan Bevel has influenced acoustic guitars all around the world.  Other custom appointments include Select Blue Paua Rosette, Purfling, and Blue Paua Abalone Backstrip, Ebony binding, McIntyre Feather Pick-Up, and Venetian Cutaway.

The previous owner of this guitar kept immaculate care of this instrument. This guitar is in absolute mint condition, with a couple small dents (2mm) on the top and back that are photographed below. This guitar also includes a Custom Calton purple Granite flight case with pewter interior.

SOLD: Composite Acoustics Cargo Charcoal High Gloss Finish with L.R. Baggs Active Element

Composite Acoustics Cargo Charcoal High Gloss Finish with L.R. Baggs Active Element

A travel size instrument that sounds like a full size guitar? Impossible! The CA Cargo is comfortable to play anywhere, from the forests of Oregon to the foothills of the Catskill mountains, and even in your favorite armchair. Finely appointed and incredibly durable, the Cargo is ready when you are. It easily fits airline overhead storage or anywhere space is tight. It's a portable guitar with the playability, sound and satisfaction of a full size guitar.

The Cargo is one of our most popular guitars when our customers want to purchase a great travel guitar without sacrificing tone. The carbon fiber construction means that you can finally leave the guitar in a cold car overnight, or on a hot summer day without any worry of damage. Rainstorm falling on the gig? You may need a string change, but the guitar will survive the storm with zero damage! The necks are built without a truss rod and will NEVER be out of adjustment, regardless of humidity or temperature changes.

The offset soundhole allows for greater bass response from this small sized instrument. The cutaway on the treble side of the instruments allows for completely unhindered access to the upper frets, so that you can practice fingerstyle chordal accompaniment, or solo lead lines. Either the matte "raw" finish or the durable high gloss finish will resist chipping, scratching, fading, for a lifetime of use. Paired with the optional L.R. Baggs Element undersaddle pickup, there is nowhere on or off the planet where you won't be able to play, and better yet; be heard!

SOLD: Bourgeois Country Boy OM Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany

Hear This Instrument: Bourgeois Country Boy OM Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Bourgeois Country Boy OM Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany

The Bourgeois Country Boy OM is a powerful orchestra model featuring an Adirondack Spruce top and master grade mahogany back and sides.  The appointments are classic and simple... pulling inspiration from the "Country Boy" dreadnought, named by none other than Ricky Skaggs!  The ebony fretboard and bridge, wooden rosette, tortoiseshell binding, vintage style top toner, and nickel Waverly tuners will look very familiar to lovers of traditional mahogany guitars.

Mahogany has a quick velocity of sound, relatively lightness of weight, and noticeable midrange overtone attenuation. As a result, mahogany guitars have their own sound. Warm, dry, woody, not particularly complex, but direct, lively, and famously easy to record.  Dana achieves impeccable string balance and this OM is a perfect example, with rich and resonant low end and lively, sparkling trebles.

Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern Red Spruce, was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars and is the featured tonewood on this OM. Properly sawn, Adirondack is much stiffer than Sitka spruce, both along and across the grain. This allows Dana to make thinner, lighter tops, resulting in lightning-quick response with plenty of power to spare. Most guitar grade "Adirondack" spruce these days comes from Bourgeois' backyard--the state of Maine, which still has large stands of original and second growth softwood forests.

Don't miss your chance to come check out this great Country Boy OM... whether you fingerstyle or play with a flatpick, you won't regret it!
