2007 Collings 0001MhSb Mahogany with Full body Sunburst

2007 Collings 0001MhSb Mahogany with Full body Sunburst

The 12-fret 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it's the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance.

This 2007 0001MhSb features a custom Mahogany top as well as Mahogany back and sides. The beauty of Collings' mahogany tops is their open breath and incredible responsiveness. Overall, focus and clarity are the key qualities of this guitar. The top end has an incredible definition and brightness, without sacrificing or overpowering the mid-range. Really, the mid-range focus is what makes this guitar shine. It's perfect for Piedmont blues or folksy strumming. Alternate bass line fans rejoice, for the bass response on this one is gorgeously well defined!

This custom ordered Collings 000 has a beautiful Full body sunburst, with a Tortoise bound Fretboard, as well as Tortoise bound Peghead. Some other features of this Collings 0001 include Pre-war scalloped bracing, ebony fingerboard and pyramid bridge, Slotted Headstock, and a M.O.P. Collings logo inlay on the headstock.

This Collings 0001MhSb is in excellent condition. There are minor scratches to the finish on the front and back of the guitar as well as a small dent in the finish (not through the finish) on the back of the guitar as seen in detail in the pictures below. A K & K Pure Mini pickup has been installed on the guitar. Strap button has been professionally installed and it includes the Original Hardshell Case.

2012 Santa Cruz 1929 000 Depression Era Series All Mahogany

Hear This Instrument: Santa Cruz 1929-000 Depression Era Series All Mahogany
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2012 Santa Cruz 1929 000 Depression Era Series All Mahogany

The Santa Cruz 1929-000 is the full sized version of the 1929 Model we originally commissioned. A longer, 25.375 inch scale for additional volume and bass make it a worthy ensemble instrument. You will find the same simple and elegant aesthetics of the 1929-O and 1929-OO versions. The master grade True Mahogany top is correctly dimensioned and hand voiced for a full and complex presence, and the elements for an heirloom guitar are all in place.

The 1929-000’s look includes a period correct “Vintage Script” logo done tastefully in Ivoroid. Classic Ebony complements the pyramid bridge, tuner buttons, head-plate and fretboard. An appropriately simple rosette is inlaid with a rich faux tortoise shell celluloid ring in a vintage Ivoroid border. The 1929-000 Model has all the exceptional presence and playability that you would expect from the Santa Cruz stable of state of the art acoustic guitars.

This guitar has custom Adirondack Bracing which are attached with custom Hot Hide Glue. This is a powerful combination equating to a dramatic increase in power and pure tone. Adirondack Braces are lighter and stiffer than Sitka, therefore they are more responsive and offer a more efficient transfer of energy through the top. When glued using Hot Hide Glue, that same effect is multiplied yet again... offering even greater resonation and power.

This guitar excels at fingerstyle playing while also providing great projection and depth when strummed and flatpicked.  The all-mahogany construction provides a clear, woody, dry and airy tone that is very balanced and smooth thanks to the masterful voicing.  The comfortable 000 size doesn’t lack for low end… as stated above, the tone is quite balanced thanks to Richard Hoover’s masterful tap tuning and skillful bracing, providing a sound that is much larger than many other similar sized instruments.

This 2012 Santa Cruz 1929 000 Depression Era Series All Mahogany is in excellent + condition with only a few very light stratches on the pickguard, 1 small ding on the top of peghead and very light string winder marks. lIt has very minor fretwear and includes the original upgraded hardshell case.

Huss and Dalton 00 SP Custom Sinker Mahogany with Koa Bindings

Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Huss and Dalton 00 SP Custom Sinker Mahogany with Koa Bindings

Our first Huss and Dalton “Sinker Mahogany” was custom ordered, so incredibly beautiful, and so phenomenal in sound, we knew we had to order another one immediately! We had a custom order the very day we delivered the prior one, so we were anxiously awaiting our new “Sinker”.

Our 00-SP All “Sinker” Mahogany from Huss and Dalton, built using old growth "sinker mahogany," is nothing short of spectacular!  "If you like wood with a story, then it doesn't get any better than this material. This is material from the bottom of Belizean rivers. Belize used to be a British colony. The British exported a lot of Mahogany from Belize throughout history and during the 19th century they used the rivers of Belize as their main source of transportation. Occasionally the denser Mahogany logs would sink!  These logs for over 100 years had been lost and forgotten, until now!"  Read the rest of this entry about Sinker Mahogany here.

The topwood on this guitar is also gorgeous piece of Sinker Mahogany, which lends a crisp, defined tone to finger picked chords. This instrument is incredibly responsive to bare fingers, where you barely have to touch the strings and the sound leaps out of the guitar!

The Sinker Mahogany back and sides produces a tone that is clear and powerful. The low end is spectacular and much more prominent than many standard mahogany guitars of this size.  The midrange, while maintaining stunning clarity and definition, is very smooth and pleasant, making for a very balanced sound without the harsh upper mids and trebles that can sometimes take place. Lending clarity and punch to the guitar is Huss and Dalton’s exclusive hand split Adirondack bracing,  which helps to add stiffness to the small top, however, never at the sacrifice of the responsiveness.

Some gorgeous appointments have been chosen to further compliment this little beauty. The Koa bindings on the body as well as the fretboard and head stock and a custom satin Mahogany neck take this guitar over the top!

Collings 001H Mh Mahogany

Hear This Instrument: Collings 001H Mh Mahogany
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
 Collings 001H Mh Mahogany

The dimensions of Collings' 001Hmh are similar to the original design first introduced around the Civil War. The comfortable 12 Fret size and timeless appearance of the Collings 00 is matched by the ease of playing a wide neck and shorter string scale affords. The tone of a typical 00 is balanced and precise, and we've seen it adopted for a wide range of playing styles from the singer/songwriter fair to ragtime solos - but it really sings when used for fingerstyle. With this in mind, we ordered this guitar with a few custom features with the discerning fingerstylist in mind.

This gorgeous Collings OO1HMh features a Mahogany top combined with Mahogany back and sides. This is an absolutely wonderful sounding instrument. The Mahogany top provides for more sustain, slower attack, as you would expect from a heavier top. Mahogany tops make for a friendly, sweet guitar that does not amplify mistakes. The Mahogany back and sides are perfect for players who find rosewood too boomy. Lead players will appreciate the enhanced note definition and clarity, especially through the midrange frequencies.

This guitar excels at fingerstyle playing while also providing great projection and depth when strummed and flatpicked. The all-mahogany construction provides a clear, woody, dry and airy tone that is very balanced and smooth thanks to the masterful voicing.

This instrument is, in our opinion, perfectly appointed. The body is bound with tortoise style bindings, with a tortoise pickguard and finished off with a high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish and herringbone purfling. Additionally, the Slotted headstock and Nickel Waverly Tuners top off a classy, elegant instrument.

The 001HMh model offers a welcome alternative for those looking for a smaller guitar that really separates itself from all the rest!

Collings D1H Mahogany Herringbone

Hear This Instrument: Collings D1H Mahogany Herringbone
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
 Collings D1H Mahogany Herringbone

There are certain traditions and build philosophies that are engrained in our minds over the years. For some reason or another, herringbone purfling is usually reserved for rosewood guitars. No we don't want to step on any toes, but the real shame behind this idea is the tonal difference a herringbone purfling brings to ANY guitar. In our experience, mahogany dreadnoughts with herringbone are nothing short of brilliant. So, we ordered a all mahogany D1H and awaited the results. We are pleased to say that it is quite the breathtaking guitar! Like most all Collings, this guitar has a ample volume and presence.

This guitar excels at fingerstyle playing while also providing great projection and depth when strummed and flatpicked.  The all-mahogany construction provides a clear, woody, dry and airy tone that is very balanced and smooth thanks to the masterful voicing. The advantage to using herringbone is the edge of the top must be routed slightly larger to accommodate for the width of the purfling. It results in a more resonate and responsive top - right out of the box. Additional custom appointments include upgraded nickel Waverly tuners with Ebony buttons. This D1H has a wonderful breathe and life to it. Surely not to be missed!

SOLD: Collings OM1H Mh Mahogany with Herringbone

Hear This Instrument: Collings OM1H Mh Mahogany with Herringbone
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings OM1H Mh Mahogany with Herringbone

The OM guitar is an interpretation of the Martin short run of instruments made between 1929 and 1933. These feature a 000 size body with a 14 fret neck. 'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Yet flatpickers also find it appealing, and when the graceful cutaway is added these OMs are often used by lead players who routinely explore all 20 frets much as they would on an electric guitar.

The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.

This OM1 features a custom Mahogany top combined with Mahogany back and sides.

This custom Mahogany OM1 is absolutely gorgeous. It is appointed with a custom Herringbone top purfling, Nickel Waverly tuners with Ebony buttons and high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish and a custom 1 3/4" nut width which allows our fingerpicking friends to play effortlessly and bend chords easily.

The herringbone purfle is a classy visual feature and we find it also adds to the tone and responsiveness of the instrument. By cutting into the outer edge of the soundboard and replacing with herringbone, you are making changes in how the top is isolated from the side of the guitar, how freely it moves and in what direction. In our experience the addition of the herringbone makes the guitar feel a bit more "opened up" right from the start.

 2007 Collings C10 Mahogany

Of all of Collings’ acoustic models, the C10 is perhaps the easiest for electric guitarists to adapt to, thanks in part to the more rounded neck profile. The C10 model offers a welcome alternative for those looking for a smaller guitar that really separates itself from all the rest!

While you won't read it on Collings' website, the C-10 is very similar to the Gibson L-00 of old. It is built with a similar narrow waist and small upper bout; resulting in a precise, focused response. The smaller upper bout is gratifying and a true dream to play. It's this unique body size that allows the C-10 to project a more focused mid-range then other smaller bodied guitars. This mid-range is combined with a crisp low-end and rounded, mellow trebles.

This gorgeous C10 features a Mahogany top combined with Mahogany back and sides. This is an absolutely wonderful sounding instrument that excels at fingerstyle playing while also providing great projection and depth when strummed and flatpicked. The all-mahogany construction provides a clear, woody, dry and airy tone that is very balanced and smooth thanks to the masterful voicing.

This all Mahogany Collings C-10 is perfectly appointed. The body is bound with tortoise style bindings, with a tortoise pickguard and finished off with a high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish and  simple B/W/B/W purfling.  Additionally, the upgraded Nickel Gotoh Delta Series tuners top off a classy and elegant instrument.

This instrument is in excellent condition with only a few surface scratches on the top, back, sides, neck and peghead which we have attempted to capture in the detailed photos below. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.

Santa Cruz 1929 00 All Mahogany

When players start discussing tone, the conversation inevitably turns to vintage instruments. Maybe it stems from a reverence and longing for a bygone era, but it's hard to deny the magic in an instrument with rich history and unmistakable tone that only gets better with the passage of time.

In the past, we have commissioned a limited run of some remarkably special instruments from our short list of select builders. So when the idea of all Mahogany construction came up, the name Santa Cruz shortly followed. The 1929 Depression Era 00-17 is presented as an heirloom quality instrument from Santa Cruz Guitars, designed with simpler appointments reflecting the era, yet with all the mojo you would expect from a guitar with such a special namesake. Their selection of Mahogany tone woods offers snap and sparkle, a dry and airy tone - tone that hangs on to every note with ease.

The Robb Report showcases the simple elegance of this SCGC model as a way to ‘own the extraordinary’ instead of ‘settle for the ordinary.’ Welcomed internationally as both timely and timeless, the 1929-00 has received sparkling reviews from the most prestigious publications in France, Germany, UK and the US.

The fine builders at Santa Cruz and wanted to insure this guitar would be an accurate representation of the era. In keeping with its nostalgic look of the 1920s - it bares a custom Santa Cruz headstock logo reminiscent of the era, inlaid in grained ivoroid. With one look it's clear that even designer Raymond Loewy would be proud to have designed it. The body is bound in Mahogany, a subtle addition we can not imagine the guitar without. Coupled with an elegantly appointed top, a simple two line rosette of grained ivoroid and single line purfling on the top and sides - our patience has been rewarded.

The 1929 Series was originally introduced as a limited run of 12 instruments, made exclusively for and designed with Artisan Guitars. In fact, Bill took home number 13... the only guitar he has purchased for himself since opening the shop.
