SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2009 Gibson Banjo Limited Edition #15 of 20 Vintage Granada Hearts and Flowers Series 1930′s Style

2009 Gibson Banjo Limited Edition #15 of 20 Vintage Granada Hearts and Flowers Series 1930's Style

The Limited Edition Vintage Granada “Hearts and Flowers” banjo draws on the beloved and legendary pre-War Gibson Granada banjos. The Vintage Granada “Hearts and Flowers” was handcrafted in Nashville, Tennessee, in the now closed Gibson Showcase factory,  by some of the finest banjo makers in the world. Working from the original Gibson Granada specs, the Vintage Granada “Hearts and Flowers” features a classic Gibson flathead pot assembly and tone, with a traditional “Hearts and Flowers” inlay pattern. With all the beauty and aesthetics of the standard Granada Hearts and Flowers, the “Vintage” Granada also offers copper-flashed hardware and an RB-75 tone ring for an extremely warm yet focused tone. The Gibson Original Limited Edition “Vintage” Granada Hearts and Flowers was released in a very limited run of only 20.

To make this instrument that much more versatile, 5th string spikes were added at the time of purchase at frets 7, 9, and 10 (A, B, C).  A Snuffy Smith 5/8" bridge was also added by the original dealer, making the tone more lively and a bit warmer.  Snuffy Smith bridges are widely recognized as one of the best upgrades you can do to any banjo.

This 2009 banjo is difficult to distinguish from new.  There is some finish hazing on the top side of the headstock, which we believe came that way from the Gibson factory, see detailed photograph.  The original hardshell case is included.

SOLD: Huss & Dalton Cedar Forest Mill Custom Banjo Sunburst Finish

Huss & Dalton Cedar Forest Mill Custom Banjo Sunburst Finish

Before forming Huss & Dalton, Jeff Huss and Mark Dalton originally worked together at Stelling Banjo works, where they learned a thing or two about making banjos, to say the least.  While we have come to know their namesake company to build outstanding acoustic guitars in the vintage tradition, they still turn out some incredible banjos at their Virginia workshop... each one just as outstanding as their acoustic guitars.

The Cedar Forest Mill model banjo is a professional level bluegrass instrument with a 1930's style sand cast flat-head tone ring and a 3-ply maple body.  The tailpiece is made by Kershner and the hardware is bright nickel plated.  The inlays feature a "Bat" pattern on the fingerboard and headstock.  Ivoroid bindings make the the rich stain of the wood really stand out.  A two way adjustable truss rod and Waverly tuning machines complete the package, you will always be able to play comfortably and in-tune on this banjo!

Huss and Dalton banjos have a great deal of warmth compared with many other inferior builds.  The tone is rich with a punchy midrange and pleasing highs... exactly what you want out of a banjo!  This banjo features a custom sunburst finish.

SOLD: Pre-Owned: 2005 Deering Golden Era 5-String Maple Banjo

2005 Deering Golden Era 5-String Maple Banjo

A Maple prewar style bluegrass banjo made like the classic banjos of the 1930's with the same materials and the same weight, design and features, the Golden Era is one of the most popular banjos for traditional bluegrass bands. It is comparable with competitive banjos costing considerably more and far more accurate to the original models than other current production banjos. For the classic sound, appearance and feel of the prized banjos from the 1930's, at The Golden Era banjo is a unique model of the Deering line. It is designed to produce the most sought-after sound, a sound previously only achieved by five-string banjos of the pre-war era. This beautiful banjo has a Genuine Deering'06 20-hole bell bronze tone-ring, the drum assembly and neck shape are designed for the traditional crisp and strong bass notes as well as the distinct clear high tones of the cherished bluegrass sound.

The unique features of the Golden Era are the thicker neck shape which creates more sustain and the deeper resonator which provides that warm gutsy tone.  This banjo offers an ebony fingerboard, which was previously a custom option. The flame Eastern hard rock maple of the neck and resonator are stained with a cremona sunburst stain. Mother-of-pearl inlays are the traditional "Hearts and Flowers" pattern.  The Maple rim is turned to traditional dimensions and mounted with a zinc flange, twenty-hole virgin bell bronze tone-ring and presto style tailpiece with careful attention to original dimensions to recreate the sound and performance traditionalists desire.

This banjo has a huge sound that puts other banjos to shame.  The tone is clear, bright and punchy, without the brittle high end sometimes associated with banjos.  The highs are warm and bell like, with lots of sustain and resonation while maintaining outstanding clarity up and down the neck.  The low end is round and full.  Virtually unlimited power means you'll give even the loudest "banjo killers" a run for their money, as this banjo is definitely quite loud.  It's no wonder you hear these exact banjos on albums from Josh Williams, Herb Pederson, Byron Berline, etc.  This is the banjo you've been looking for!

This banjo has some slight rough spots around the binding that are not large enough to be photographed.  There is some discoloration on the head, viewable in the photograph.  Original hardshell case included.
