Collings MF Sunburst Ivoroid Binding

The MF is a world class mandolin with simplified appointments featuring a gloss top as well as a satin finish on the back and sides and, on this particular instrument, custom ivoroid binding . With a fully carved Adirondack spruce top and maple back and sides, the MF is built with the same quality construction as Collings fully-appointed models.

The custom gloss top on this custom Collings MF produces a tone we've come to expect out of Collings Mandolins... it is rich, thick and meaty with lots of punch and a great chop. The satin finish on the back and sides not only looks incredible but produces a tone that is wide open, and woody that really compliments the tone that the gloss top produces. Playability on Collings' mandolins are hard to beat, and this one plays like a dream with low action and surprising responsiveness.

The custom Ivoroid binding on the body and bound ebony pickguard make for a very classy look, complimenting the custom gloss sunburst top perfectly. The Adirondack Spruce top is especially nice on this instrument, with large grain and a wide open sound.

Hand-crafted in Austin, TX, Collings mandolins are built with finest seasoned spruce and eastern maple. With equal emphasis placed on tone, fit and finish, and playability, they strive to create a new benchmark of quality in mandolins.

The MF5 is Collings’ fully appointed F-model with a carved, seasoned Adirondack Spruce top and premium maple back and sides.  The tone is thick and rich, with clear resonant highs that never sound thin. The Ebony fretboard plays extremely fast, making those bluegrass classics a breeze at any tempo, although the tone of this instrument is versatile enough to fit well into any genre from Irish to Classical. Not only does this mandolin have tremendous playability the tone of this mandolin is very distinct, with clear high end with plenty of headroom to make sure the mandolin is heard over a group jam session.

To complete the package, this MF5 is finished with a gorgeous sunburst that allows the Adirondack Spruce top to show off it's grain as well as an equally beautiful flamed maple back and sides. The sunburst is elegantly complimented by an Ivoroid bound body as well as a bound Ebony fretboard and headstock.

The Collings MT Mandolin is a standard A-model with simplified appointments. The top is a wonderful fully carved Engelmann spruce with flamed maple back and sides as well as a Satin Finish. Engelmann is highly responsive without requiring a heavy pick attack. This tonewood is known for warm, lush, thick sounds with a smooth high end and punchy midrange. It doesn't need to be played hard to sound great, although it handles heavy playing quite well too.

To complete the package, this custom MT also features Tortoise bindings with Black/White Purfling and Nickel tuners with black buttons. The Tortoise bindings and bound ebony pickguard make for a very classy look, complimenting the satin finish perfectly. These additional features really make the MT stand out, with a very classy and traditional appearance.

2010 Collings MF5-O Series F-Style Mandolin w/ Quilted Maple

F-hole mandolins have dominated the bluegrass scene for decades; due in part to Bill Monroe's faithful use of a 1923 Gibson F-5. While bluegrass has a strong foothold here in Nashville, the oval-hole mandolin has had a place in music for centuries. We are thrilled to see Collings produce a line of oval-hole mandolins.

The MF5-O is Colling's Oval Soundhole F-model with full appointments. This instrument is appointed with a beautiful grained ivoroid top binding, nickel tuners, and lacquered sunburst finish. The MF5-O is right at home playing jazz and blues to celtic and classical pieces - without missing a beat in a bluegrass circle. The oval hole allows for more emphasis on the richness of the bass and midrange. The larger soundhole brings a lush, warmth and supple tone with fuller sustain then the f-hole offers. This MF5-O featuring a fully carved Adirondack spruce top and gorgeous quilted maple back and sides. Seriously, one of the most fantastic sets of maple we have seen! With its superb tone, elegant stylings and unmatched playability, the Collings MF5-O is sure to please the most discerning eyes and ears.

This pre-owned Collings is in fantastic shape with the two minor dents on the top as shown in the detailed photos. The first is below the soundhole, the second is near the tailpiece on the bass side. There are some minor buff mark scratches that we tried to photograph to the best of our ability, as well as a few string change scratches on the headstock. The original hardshell case is included.

The MT is Collings'  standard A-model with simplified appointments.  Normally the finish is satin throughout, but this MT features a custom gloss finished top, which sweetens the tone a bit compared to the satin top.  The top is  a wonderful fully carved Engelmann spruce with flamed maple back and sides.  Engelmann is highly responsive without requiring a heavy pick attack.  This tonewood is known for warm, lush, thick sounds with a smooth high end and punchy midrange.  It doesn't need to be played hard to sound great, although it handles heavy playing quite well too.

To complete the package, this custom MT also features grained ivoroid bindings and nickel tuners with ivoroid buttons.  These additional features really make the MT stand out, with a very classy and traditional appearance.

This used instrument has a ding on the back, as pictured.  There are some scratches on the headstock, also pictured.  There are also scratches on the top, around the bottom f-hole, pictured.  There is some oxidation on the tailpiece.  Original hardshell case included.

Collings MTO Custom Oval Hole Mandolin Black Face with Honey Amber Back and Sides

Collings MTO is an oval hole a-style mandolin featuring an engelmann spruce top over flamed maple.  These mandolins produce a rich and vibrant tone that is well-suited for celtic, old-time, classical and jazz styles.

This custom mandolin was ordered with a gloss back top and satin honey-amber sunburst back and sides.  The bindings are all tortoise, with no purflings at all, selected intentionally to blend in with the black finish.  Even the ebony pickguard is bound in tortoise without purfle lines... it is gorgeous!

The finishing touches on this mandolin is the hardware... gold tailpiece and tuning machines with ebony tuning buttons.

This mandolin has a very sweet, full tone and is highly responsive across the spectrum.  Engelmann spruce is one of the softest varieties of spruce and therefore is very warm and responsive with even the lightest pick attack.  The trebles are smooth and pure, balanced perfectly with the midrange.

This 2009 MF5 is Collings fully appointed F-model with a carved seasoned Red spruce top and premium maple back and sides. This particular mandolin has a beautiful amber sunburst top with grained ivoroid bindings on the neck and body, with a beautiful black/white side purfling.

The tone of this instrument is exactly what we've come to expect out of Collings... it is rich, thick and meaty with lots of punch and a great chop.  Playability on Collings' mandolins are hard to beat, and this one plays like a dream with low action and surprising responsiveness.

There are some very light finish scratches on the headstock area, with a scratch near the left tuners from string changes.  The tailpiece shows some wear, as pictured.  Original Collings hardshell case included.
