National RM-1 Resonator Mandolin w/ Aged Brass Hardware

Inspired by a rare pre-war wood bodied National mandolin, National's resonator mandolin has traditional features like the biscuit bridge combined with modern touches such as an intonated saddle and a comfortably radiused, extended fingerboard. The art deco cast tailpiece is a National exclusive. The sides and back are solid walnut and the top is figured maple as is the neck. The tuners are vintage-style open gear.

The resonator and hardware feature an Aged Brass finish and looks perfect next to the figured sunburst maple top.

This mandolin has an instantly unique sound.  The resonator adds a level of volume previously impossible with traditional mandolins.  While the make/model is different, Sam Bush is often heard playing slide on a resonator mandolin and this RM-1 from National instantly conjures that bluesy mandolin sound.  Celtic and Irish melodies sound especially unique on this mandolin and we have customers who play them in bluegrass circles as well... dominating fiddles, banjos, and guitars like nothing you've ever heard!

The MF is Colling's satin finish F-model with simplified appointments. Despite it being a simplified model, it is appointed with a beautiful grained ivoroid top binding, nickel tuners, and lacquered sunburst finish. Featuring a fully carved Adirondack spruce top and maple back and sides, the MF is built with the same quality construction as their fully-appointed models. These instruments produce the rich, woody tone that one would expect from a professional quality mandolin at an affordable price. This particular model features an all satin finish and grained iviroid top binding.

Collings MF5V Series Varnish Finished F-Style Mandolin

We are proud to announce that we are now carrying Collings mandolins! Hand-crafted in Austin, TX; Collings mandolins are built with finest seasoned spruce and eastern maple. With equal emphasis placed on tone, "fit and finish" and playability, they strive to create a new benchmark of quality in mandolins.

The MF5V is Colllings features the same fully appointed specifications of the MF5 series, but with a beautiful hand varnished finish. This particular mandolin is finished in a with a beautiful blonde varnish finish, an ebony pickguard with tortoise bindings, and tortoise bindings on the body and neck. It features a carved seasoned Red spruce top and premium maple back and sides. With its superb tone, elegant stylings and unmatched playability, the MF5V is sure to please the most discerning eyes and ears.

The luthiers at Collings use an alkyd resin varnish on their varnish finished mandolins and guitars. It does not have the sheen or gloss of lacquer, but has a deeper looking luster like early oil varnishes from the 1800s or the early Loar instruments. The process takes a lot more time, both in application and drying, and is certainly not conducive to volume production. The difference in tone, however, make up for this. The varnish creates a faster response with deeper and warmer treble, and a greater overall dynamic range. Putting tonal differences into words has always been challenging, so our best advice is to get one in your hands and let the mandolin speak for itself. We think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

Collings MFO Series F-Style Mandolin w/ Oval Hole

F-hole mandolins have dominated the bluegrass scene for decades; due in part to Bill Monroe's faithful use of a 1923 Gibson F-5. While bluegrass has a strong foothold here in Nashville, the oval-hole mandolin has had a place in music for centuries. We are thrilled to see Collings produce a line of oval-hole mandolins - let's meet the first in our shop.

The MFO is Colling's satin back F-model with simplified appointments. Despite it being a simplified model, it is appointed with a beautiful grained ivoroid top binding, nickel tuners, and lacquered sunburst finish. The MFO is right at home playing jazz and blues to celtic and classical pieces - without missing a beat in a bluegrass circle. The oval hole allows for more emphasis on the richness of the bass and midrange. The larger soundhole brings a lush, warmth and supple tone with fuller sustain then the f-hole offers. Featuring a fully carved Adirondack spruce top and maple back and sides, the MFO is built with the same quality construction as their fully-appointed models. These instruments produce the rich, woody tone that one would expect from a professional quality mandolin at an affordable price.

The MT2 is Collings' fully appointed A-model with a seasoned Adirondack Red Spruce top and premium Maple back and sides. Don't let the A-style body convince you it isn't up to bluegrass. This darlin' little MT2 has all the bark and chops needed to stand up to even the toughest circle. This particular sweetheart has a gorgeous varnish sunburst and one of the most stunning pieces of Birdseye Maple we have seen! With its superb tone, elegant stylings and unmatched playability, the MT2 is sure to please the most discerning eyes and ears.
