SOLD: NRP Black Rust 12 Fret Steel

Hear This Instrument: NRP Black Rust 12 Fret Steel
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
NRP Black Rust 12 Fret Steel

The National NRP Black Rust looks like it just came out of the swamp, perfectly suited for those hot southern blues licks. This National features the new color, Black Rust, and each finish is unique. Nationals have been played by many blues legends, but they definitely were not playing one with a finish like this. No two of the Black Rust finishes are alike. The best part is, you don't have to wait 50 years for a vintage finish, you can have one right now!

This model is a 12 fret version of the Black Rust series. Each Black Rust instrument is finished with a multi-staged hand-textured finish for an individual look and semi-smooth surface profile. Capturing the look and feel of an original 12 fret National Duolian, the thin-gauge steel body is highlighted by stamped "f" holes, a formed back, and period-correct, traditional ribbed coverplate. Each mahogany neck clears 12 frets to the body and features an unbound ebony fretboard complete with mother of pearl position markers. Vintage style plain tuners, ebony nut, and "National" stamped headstock complete the look of this classic.

With the ebony fretboard and the ebony nut, notes practically jump of the fretboard and chase that hell-hound on your trail down. Classic blues fingerpicking sounds like it is coming from a porch in Mississippi on a hot summer evening. Authentic in it's tone and in it's appearance, the Black Rust NRP drives itself to the Delta!

SOLD: Collings Ukulele UC2K Koa

Hear This Instrument: Collings Ukulele UC2K Koa
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings Ukulele UC2K Koa

The UC2 K is Collings' 2-style Koa concert ukulele. The UC2 K comes standard with the Collings trademark ''haircut'' peghead shape and ivoroid body binding with black/white purfling. With solid Koa top, back and side wood, the beauty of its wood and enhanced appointments rivals its sonic complexity.

Despite looking like traditional friction tuner, each of the four tuners are actually geared tuning pegs made by Pegheadz. Collings be praised, a ukulele that is easy to tune! The 4:1 gear reduction allows strings to be tuned more easily and accurately than traditional wood pegs (or Caspari-type mechanisms which require screw drivers or special keys). Tune confidently and securely with the left hand while playing open strings; even during performance! PEGHEDS tuners return the fine-tuning function to pegs. Strings slide more freely over the smooth, wide nut than over the comparatively sharp edge of the bridge, where stress is concentrated and equilibrium of tension on either side is more difficult to achieve.

SOLD: Bourgeois DB Signature 00 Sunburst Adirondack and Madagascar Rosewood

Hear This Instrument: Bourgeois DB Signature 00 with Sunburst
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Bourgeois DB Signature 00 Sunburst Adirondack and Madagascar Rosewood

Madagascar Rosewood is known for being the most similar tonewood to the Brazilian species.  Offering many of the same sonic characteristics, Madagascar is also becoming difficult to harvest and export.  Madagascar has much of the same rich overtone range as Brazilian, as well as a slightly "reverby" quality... and with examples such as the set used on this Dana Bourgeois Signature 00, it is hard to imagine a more beautiful back and sides on any guitar.

The Bourgeois DB Signature 00 appointments, combined with a rich sunburst finish, is an especially elegant combination reflecting the masterful craftsmanship of Dana Bourgeois. A new rosette and herringbone purfling was designed for the DB Signature models to compliment Dana's earlier design of the DB backstrip.  The binding is finely flamed Curly Koa, and accents this sunburst better than we could have ever imagined.

Regarding the tone, Dana has chosen the wood specifically for the way it sounds, rather than it's appearance, although they usually look amazing, regardless.  The Adirondack and Madagascar on this DB Signature models is some of the best sounding examples of each species... especially after Dana's tuning and bracing techniques.  It's hard to imagine a nicer sound coming out of a 00... the guitar sounds much larger than it's small size and is smooth and balanced.  An instant shop favorite!

SOLD: Huss and Dalton TD-M Sinker Mahogany Adirondack Spruce Herringbone Top Purfle

Hear This Instrument: Huss & Dalton TDM Sinker Mahogany
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Huss and Dalton TD-M Sinker Mahogany Adirondack Spruce Herringbone Top Purfle

Our Huss and Dalton TD-M, built using old growth "sinker mahogany," is nothing short of spectacular!  Huss and Dalton recently purchased 10 sets of this special wood and we are honored to have this monster sinker mahogany dreadnought in the store.

"If you like wood with a story, then it doesn't get any better than this material. This is material from the bottom of Belizean rivers. Belize used to be a British colony. The British exported a lot of Mahogany from Belize throughout history and during the 19th century they used the rivers of Belize as their main source of transportation. Occasionally the denser Mahogany logs would sink!  These logs for over 100 years had been lost and forgotten, until now!Read the rest of this entry about Sinker Mahogany here.

The topwood on this guitar is Adirondack Spruce, one of the most aggressive and powerful woods available.  Adirondack provides virtually unlimited headroom when played hard, perfect for heavy handed bluegrass players who are competing with louder string band instruments such as banjos and fiddles.

The Sinker Mahogany back and sides produces a tone that is clear and incredibly powerful.  The low end is spectacular and much more prominent than many standard mahogany guitars.  The midrange, while maintaining stunning clarity and definition, is very smooth and pleasant, making for a very balanced D-18 style sound without the harsh upper mids and trebles that can sometimes jump out.

We've also opted for a custom herringbone  top purfle on this guitar.  Not to be confused as just a cosmetic upgrade, the herringbone purfle on this guitar makes the mahogany backed dreadnought much warmer with increased low end and richer high-end and an instant broken-in feel in regards to responsiveness. The tone ends up falling somewhere in between traditional mahogany and rosewood guitars... offering the detail and clarity that only mahogany can offer, but with the herringbone, gaining some of warmth and richness usually associated only with rosewood guitars.

SOLD: Carr Rambler 1×12 Custom Black Gator

Carr Rambler 1x12 Custom Black Gator

Long before the birth of Carr Amplifiers, Steve Carr spent years playing, repairing, modifying and intently listening to classic guitar amps. The Rambler was one of his earliest signature designs, and today it is still one of the most popular models. Why? It's no accident that the Rambler succeeds in delivering classic American 'deluxe' tone with dramatically expanded clean headroom, solid bass response and the option of 28 watt pentode or 14 watt triode operation. The Rambler simply reflects Steve's desire to improve and refine the original concept of an appropriately powered 1x12 club amp with reverb and tremolo. Rambler owners describe their amps as being warm, full and round, with a surprisingly high threshold of clean tone, (which also makes the Rambler uniquely suited to virtually any overdrive pedal ever built). The Rambler is considered by many to be the quintessential club amp, voiced to meet the needs of virtually any player, and all types of music.

SOLD: National M1 Tricone Wood Body Hand Sprayed “Steel” Finish

Hear This Instrument: National M1 "Steel" Finish
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
National M1 Tricone Wood Body Hand Sprayed

Another National M1 Tricone Wood body  finally arrived!  We’ve told you before that this model is one of our shop favorites, and time and time again it remains true.  This particular M1 is a special prototype with a "Steel Plated" paint over a laminated maple body.  Black binding sets off this unique sunburst finish.

The tricone design gives increased sustain without sacrificing any volume; ideal for slide and open tunings. A wood tricone resonator brings sweet, harmonically rich overtones with an unbelievable bottom end. They are warm and mellow – great for fingerpicking – the 3 cones give you plenty of volume. However, it really sings with a slide. And, as it is 3 pounds lighter than brass or steel it is very comfortable to hold.

The art deco grill and maple body is bound in black. The coverplate for the cones is made out of metal, hand-painted to match the body.  A work of art that needs to be played!

This guitar is a hand-sprayed prototype, therefore some minor finish imperfections are present.
