While you won't read it on Collings' website, the C-10 is very similar to the Gibson L-00 of old. It is built with a similar narrow waist and small upper bout; resulting in a precise, focused response. The smaller upper bout is gratifying and a true dream to play. It's this unique body size that allows the C-10 to project a more focused mid-range then other smaller bodied guitars. This mid-range is combined with a crisp low-end and rounded, mellow trebles. Of all of Collings’ acoustic models, the C10 is perhaps the easiest for electric guitarists to adapt to, thanks in part to the more rounded neck profile. While this may be true, we opted for a custom OM neck, with a “Paddle” headstock on this one! With the standard Collings Modified “V” neck profile; this may be the go to guitar for players looking to complement their Dreadnought arsenal with something a bit smaller, as the neck on a Dread would be exactly the same as on this C10.
This C10 features a custom German Spruce top, standing up to flatpicking, fingerpicks, and bare fingers alike and a shop favorite here at Artisan, especially matched with Indian Rosewood. The volume alone makes this guitar very special, holding its own with many dreadnoughts. The guitar isn't just loud; it also has a very sweet voice with warm lush overtones and rich bass response. The guitar is instantly responsive, thanks to the German top, and actually holds up to fairly heavy flatpicking and strumming without a hint of breakup.
This custom C-10 is, in our opinion, perfectly appointed. The body is bound in ivoroid, with a simple purfling line. The Deluxe model features a deeper body depth providing even further low end compared to the standard model. We have also chosen to utilize the short scale option on this one as well, which allows our fingerpicking friends to play effortlessly, bend easily, while still enjoying the bigger bass response that the Deep body option brings to the table. Additionally, the upgraded Nickel Waverly Tuners top off a classy, elegant instrument.
The C10DlxGSS model offers a welcome alternative for those looking for a smaller guitar that really separates itself from all the rest!
