Collings D1A with Adirondack Top and No Tongue Brace

We are pleased to have in the shop this Collings D1A that features an Adirondack top with no tongue brace. As people search for the mythical tone of old guitars, this brace comes into scrutiny. Martin added the tongue brace in 1940 and it has become standard every since. The absence of a tongue brace frees the top to allow enhanced vibration and results in a richer, fuller, tone with more low end resonance. This is a great feature for players who may be looking for a compromise between the mahogany and rosewood dreadnoughts. It is speculated that Martin added the brace to prevent top cracking, but the years have proven this to have been unnecessary and actually decreases resonation.

This guitar also features a custom nut width of 1 23/32 over the standard 1 3/4 as well as the addition of Adirondack bracing. Adirondack bracing makes the top stiffer with using less material, which provides a lower weight to stiffness ratio, making the top more responsive.

This D1A is a lead players dream. The Mahogany back and sides make leads very clear and distinct while the absence of the tongue brace keeps things rich, full, and open. It is very loud, will dominate jam sessions, and also sound very sweet. Whether needed on stage or in the studio, this D1A is an exceptional choice.
