Think back to the classic 60's rock song "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" by Herman's Hermits and try to imagine how you would replicate that unique guitar sound. It's a tone we haven't heard much since that decade and was made possible thanks to a Gretsch Country Gentleman with the string dampers activated, a feature not possible even on most Country Gentlemans.
This Professional Series G6122 has those exact style of string dampers, one for the bass strings and one for the treble strings which rest in between the bridge and the treble pickup. Each can be raised so that they touch the strings, created that famous "half-muted" sound, just like on the Hermits track.
The Gentleman itself debuted in mid-1957, after considerable input from Chet Atkins. The Closed body was a concession to Atkins, who was reportedly hounding Gretsch to produce a semi-hollow guitar with a solid block through the center capable of more sustain with less feedback. The Gentleman is a compromise, containing only a partial block down the center with sealed, imitation f-holes.
The FilterTron pickups feature dual-coils that are designed to "filter" out the electronic hum normally associated with single-coil pickups, while adding a warmer tone and a significantly increasing the output and sustain. This guitar was originally designed in conjunction with Chet Atkins for his particular playing and sound.
From driving rhythm to ripping leads, the classic double-cutaway G6122-1962 Country Gentleman has it all! Features include dual High Sensitive Filter'Tron™ pickups, "tone switch" circuitry, "action-flow" neck, double mutes, back pad and Bigsby® B6G vibrato tailpiece. This is the real thing, or at least as close as a modern guitar can get! Nothing else comes close for that cool swing, hip rockabilly or twanging' country sound.
