2012 Leo Posch GA RW Adirondack Spruce and Indian Rosewood

Leo Posch spent 14 years as repair-tech at Mass Street Music in Lawrence, KS before building a shop at his house in 2000. Leo prides himself on building guitars in the old tradition with Hot Hide glue, thin nitro finish, and high quality woods resulting in a wide open sound.

Leo has seen some fabulous guitars over the time he spent repairing. The ones that always sounded best to him are the Martins from the 1900s to the late 1930s and Gibsons from the 1920s to the early 1950s, therefore that is the kind of guitars he prefers to build.

Leo delivers remarkable tone through vintage inspired construction, coupled with his own techniques that result in an extremely resonant instruments with phenomenal response and playability.

Leo hand selects his woods for their stiffness and tonal potential first and foremost, and uses old world hide glue construction and craftsmanship that give this GA-RW remarkable resonance and response.

This instrument is the samd body size as Martin's 0000 and features an Adirondack Red Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood back and sides. The Adirondack Spruce top on this instrument is especially beautiful with large, rich grain at the outer edges that gets gradually thinner towards the center. Adirondack offers virtually unlimited headroom and power, generally considered invaluable for bluegrass players competing with other string instruments. It practically begs to be played hard and will be quite rewarding when done so.

The low end on this guitar is quite nice, offering rich round low notes while maintaining stunning clarity. Higher lead notes are bright and crisp up the entire fretboard.

The gorgeous appointments include Ivoroid buttons on the Waverly tuners, gorgeous custom MOP inlay work and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. You'd be hard pressed to find a more comfortable player too.

This 2012 Leo Posch GA RW Adirondack Spruce and Indian Rosewood guitar has some finish scratches on the top, back, headstock and sides, normal for a guitar that is being played. There are a few small dents around the rosette which we have tried to capture in the detail photos below. An ebony strap button has been installed. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.

SOLD: Calton Gibson L7C Archtop Guitar Case White with Black Interior

Calton Gibson L7C Archtop Guitar Case White with Black Interior

Calton Cases are Back!

Recently Keith Calton (original founder of Calton Cases UK) posted this message on his website, "I am pleased to announce that Calton Cases will soon be returning to North America. These cases will be authorized and legitimate Calton cases, delivering the same quality and endurance that have been the Calton hallmark for more than forty years but incorporating many new features and designs.  There will be more details announced in coming weeks. In the meantime I deeply appreciate your continued support and enthusiasm."

Calton cases are now being handcrafted in Austin, Texas.  These cases feature all the new design elements that Keith had engineered into the latest rendition of his UK cases. You will immediately notice the new cases are lighter (yet reinforced to be stronger yet), with more gentle curves overall and newly designed exterior bumpers.  They also include a shoulder strap, 5 locking latches, & embedded RFID security chip (read more below).

If Calton Cases are new to you, learn more about these legendary travel cases:

Calton Cases makes the world’s finest instrument cases for the world’s finest instruments. Calton's database contains hundreds of different instrument patterns. We may already have your instrument pattern on file, but we still get new patterns every week for new models from all sorts of builders big and small.

Calton hand makes each case individually. The exterior shell uses custom re-enforced composite, the interior of your case is constructed using the exact dimensions of your instrument, enveloping it in the highest grade & density foam and finished in the custom velour of your choice. The result is a perfect custom fit that provides the maximum level of protection available, in the color combination that matches you & your instrument. It is the perfect & proven solution for professional touring musicians.

Their product line is simple to describe. If it is a traditional stringed instrument, we are likely have made a custom case for it already or we can. This includes all sizes and types of guitars, mandolins, and banjos.

Calton custom fitted composite instrument cases are rugged, well balanced and attractive hard shelled cases with interiors tailored to each instrument. Each half of every case is hand moulded in a single piece, with no seams to separate. All hardware is high quality plated steel, attached to the case with rivets and reinforcing plates. Careful attention is paid to the placement of the leather handle in order to provide the optimum in comfort and balance.

A PVC strip completely edges both top and bottom halves of the case. This strong, flexible strip, combined with the natural water repellent qualities of fiberglass, provides an almost perfect seal against the elements.

Case interiors are hand crafted from high quality foam padding, using up to 15 measurements and a template of the instrument. All interior surfaces are finished in crushed velour manufactured to our specifications and the pick box is topped with a large foam pad that cushions the neck. The neck is further protected with a padded marine plywood guide that restricts side-to-side movement.

Calton Cases are entirely handcrafted, with a choice of 8 exterior and 6 interior colors. All Calton Cases are molded from glass fiber and resin, ensuring that there are no seams to separate. Exterior colors currently available are: Red, White, Green, Brown, Blue, Yellow, Burgundy, and Black.

Calton Case interiors are handcrafted from 3 grades of fire retardant high quality foam padding and all interior surfaces are finished in crushed velour. Interior colors available are red, grey, green, brown, blue, and burgundy.

RFID Microchip - Added Security

All Calton cases now include an embedded RFID microchip for added security. Should you ever elect to register your case for electronic scanning, there is a one-time fee of $40 to register your Calton case. Upon registration your case it will be entered in a database that is monitored by police departments and pawnshop associations nationwide. You can enter contact information and a description, even photos of your case for positive identification.

Should your case go missing, you can flag it as lost or stolen and monitoring will begin immediately. Police departments and pawnshops routinely scan for RFID microchips in high value items. Upon a match with the RFID code from your case, police will be notified and will contact you to facilitate its return.  The RFID chips used in Calton Cases boast a recovery rate of 35%, the highest in the industry, and some insurance companies are offering discounts for RFID-equipped assets.

Recovery Process Details, in the event of a loss or theft:

  • The owner of a Calton Case protected by an RFID microchip files a police report and an officer and case number are assigned.
  • The owner notifies flags the case as lost or stolen and forwards the police report information.
  • A complete file on the asset, including photos (if provided by owner), is released to pawnshop associations, all second-hand recovery officers in every major city in the U.S. as well as posting a loss or theft alert on the RFID chip provider’s website.
  • When the case is scanned and flagged as lost or stolen, the police involved contact the legal owner. RFID identification technology is recognized as unalterable proof of ownership by the U.S. legal system and law enforcement agencies.
  • After ownership is verified, the item is then returned to the legal owner. Court appearance and costly travel are not required to release the asset.

SOLD: Collings OM1 A Varnish Adirondack and Mahogany with Adirondack Braces

Collings OM1 A Varnish Adirondack and Mahogany with Adirondack Braces

The Collings OM1A is a classic Collings model, a shop favorite, and while it takes it's inspiration from the original models, Collings has subtly upgraded these with their signature style, and tone. OM stands for Orchestra Model, but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Collings has transformed the standard OM, into a true "do it all" instrument.

This OM1A packs a serious punch, with killer volume and presence - easily acting as a dreadnought alternative. This  OM1A has a superb balance and clarity, each note stands out in chordal accompaniment, as well as lead lines.

The Adirondack top adds a tremendous amount of headroom, crisp trebles, and gut-punching mids. It takes to a flatpick beautifully, but sings with bare fingers as well. You know the feeling when you're holding that guitar? - this is that guitar.

The Figured Mahogany back and sides are perfect for players who find rosewood too boomy. Lead players will appreciate the enhanced note definition and clarity, especially through the midrange frequencies.

The custom Adirondack Braces are lighter and stiffer than Sitka, therefore they are more responsive and offer a more efficient transfer of energy through the top.

Thinner than nitrocellulose lacquer, the custom varnish finish is more flexible and allows the wood to resonate more, significantly smoothing out the mids and highs while extending the low end considerably. The tonal qualities produced by the varnish finish are amazing, especially when compared side by side to a guitar without it.

As people search for the mythical tone of old guitars, the tongue brace comes into scrutiny. Martin added the tongue brace in 1940 and it has become standard every since. The absence of a tongue brace frees the top to allow enhanced vibration and results in a richer, fuller, tone with more low end resonance. This is a great feature for players who may be looking for a compromise between the mahogany and rosewood dreadnoughts. It is speculated that Martin added the brace to prevent top cracking, but the years have proven this to have been unnecessary and actually decreases resonation.

2000 Goodall Concert Jumbo with Mastergrade Adirondack Spruce and Macassar Ebony

Hear This Instrument: 2000 Goodall Concert Jumbo with Mastergrade Adirondack Spruce and Macassar Ebony
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2000 Goodall Concert Jumbo with Mastergrade Adirondack Spruce and Macassar Ebony

In November 1998 after 26 years of building some of the finest steel string guitars ever constructed, James Goodall announced the addition of an exciting new box size. This is in response to increasing requests for a more comfortable, smaller body dimension than the Goodall Standard (near in size to the Dreadnought).

The end result is a beautiful new shape called the Concert Jumbo. "The powerful, rich, and clear tone has exceeded my expectations," James Goodall said of his new Concert Jumbo.

The Concert Jumbo series guitar is slightly smaller than the Standard series and larger than the Grand Concert series guitar. It is available with all the same fine options and wood choices as in all Goodall guitars.

This Goodall Concert Jumbo is perfectly balanced, with great note separation and a strong voice that's full of low-mid punch and crisp trebles. This guitar has an incredibly balanced tone across the frequency spectrum which makes it perfect for fingerstyle arrangements where the inner voices are important. Every note is clear and separate but still blends perfectly with the rest of the notes being played.

This 2000 Goodall Concert Jumbo with Mastergrade Adirondack Spruce and Macassar Ebony is in excellent condition with only light surface scratches on the top and pickguard.  Additionally, it has some light finish sinking in two places the top which you can view in the detailed photos below.  It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.
