SOLD: Santa Cruz Vintage Jumbo Acoustic Guitar

Santa Cruz Vintage Jumbo Acoustic Guitar

Santa Cruz's Vintage Jumbo is inspired by the classic round-shouldered dreadnoughts of the 1940s. Improving on a classic isn't easy, but Santa Cruz has taken this revered design to a new level of tonal power and craftsmanship in the Vintage Jumbo, creating a guitar that is pure acoustic dynamite.

Round shouldered dreadnoughts have a unique sound, enthused Santa Cruz president Richard Hoover. Their deep, rich, bass and sweet, strong treble really shine in chord-oriented styles like country, folk and blues. The Vintage Jumbo captures this tone perfectly, and enhances it with characteristic Santa Cruz volume, balance and complexity.

The Vintage Jumbo features prime tone woods: Genuine Mahogany back and sides, and Sitka spruce for the top. Hand-tuned top bracing developed specifically for this model - tapered x-braces and double tapered tone bars - result in exceptionally punchy response. The guitar was designed to favor a sweet thick timbre. It responds beautifully to the player who demands lots of headroom. The guitar is capable of delivering greatly increased volume according to the intensity of attack. You won't find this one coming up short when you call on it for more! The 1 11/16 inch neck width and rounded neck profile combine for outstanding comfort and playability.

SOLD: Santa Cruz H13 Cowboy Series w/ Sitka Spruce Top

Santa Cruz H13 Cowboy Series w/ Sitka Spruce Top

Yet another collaboration between Artisan Guitars and Santa Cruz, we introduce the H-13 Cowboy Edition. The H-13, Santa Cruz's interpreted adaptation of Gibson's 1937 Nick Lucas, has always been that ace in the hole guitar in Santa Cruz's lineup. Despite its small appearance, the H-13 employs a body depth approaching that of a much larger dreadnought-sized guitar, producing superb volume and bass support to bolster its rich tone. The body fits perfectly in your hands, inspiring songs around campfires or living rooms. The bracing pattern is unique to this model, utilizing a hybrid pattern that combines both scalloped and tapered braces. Built upon the standard tone woods of an H-13, it is extremely versatile. The combination of Mahogany and Sitka brings clarity and balance. It is perfectly suited for both fingerstyle and flatpicking.

While the H-13 is special, in and of itself, we couldn't help but add some Southern flair. In the tradition of some of Nashville's greatest players, we start with a high gloss black finish on the whole body. The most striking feature is the barbed wire rosette. Customed designed and inlayed with 112 pieces of Mother of Pearl, it's sure to draw stares from across the room.

We have designed an optional pickguard made of grained iviroid. While not everyone likes pickguards, we think it really pulls the whole guitar together. See the detail photos to see for yourself. We will gladly install it for you, if you so choose.

This guitar is exclusive to Artisan Guitars, so call or email us for more information.

SOLD: Santa Cruz 1929 Depression Era 00-17 (Limited Commission of 12 for 2009)

Santa Cruz 1929 Depression Era 00-17 (Limited Commission of 12 for 2009)

When players start discussing tone, the conversation inevitably turns to vintage instruments. Maybe it stems from a reverence and longing for a bygone era, but it's hard to deny the magic in an instrument with rich history and unmistakable tone that only gets better with the passage of time.

In the past, we have commissioned a limited run of some remarkably special instruments from our short list of select builders. So when the idea of all Mahogany construction came up, the name Santa Cruz shortly followed. The 1929 Depression Era 00-17 is presented as an heirloom quality instrument from Santa Cruz Guitars, designed with simpler appointments reflecting the era, yet with all the mojo you would expect from a guitar with such a special namesake. Their selection of Mahogany tone woods offers snap and sparkle, a dry and airy tone - tone that hangs on to every note with ease. The term canon immediately comes to mind.

The fine builders at Santa Cruz wanted to insure this guitar would be an accurate representation of the era. In keeping with its nostalgic look of the 1920s - it bares a custom Santa Cruz headstock logo reminiscent of the era, inlayed in grained ivoroid. With one look it's clear that even designer Raymond Loewy would be proud to have designed it. The body is bound in Mahogany, a subtle addition we can not imagine the guitar without. Coupled with an elegantly appointed top, a simple two line rosette of grained ivoroid and single line purfling on the top and sides - our patience has been rewarded.

As this is such a special instrument, we asked Santa Cruz to take some production photos of the first guitar as it was being built. Click here to view all the photos.

Due to the unique nature and remarkable tone this guitar achieves, we asked Bryan Clark; local session player and adjunct faculty member at Belmont University School of Music where he teaches composition, history of American song and arranging - to showcase just how special this guitar is. Click here to view the video.

Call or email us today to reserve your guitar before they are gone.

SOLD: Santa Cruz 12 Fret Dreadnought

Santa Cruz 12 Fret Dreadnought

Legendary flatpick artist and Santa Cruz Shop great Norman Blake has long appreciated the power and sensitivity of the original dreadnought size, which had 12 frets clear of the body. The Santa Cruz 12 Fret Dreadnought model has been created to showcase Norman's playing style and to produce the clarity and sustain necessary for an articulate response to the flat pick. Building a guitar with 12 frets clear of the body creates more air volume, which allows greater amplitude, sustain, and increased bass response. The advanced X-brace on the top is voiced to achieve maximum response in all ranges, thereby avoiding the 12 fret's usual tendency toward a powerful bass at the expense of the midrange and treble. The guitar's back and sides are made with mahogany, a wood that imparts clarity and contributes to the guitar's complexity of overtones.

This model's sheer volume, incredible sustain, and sophisticated tone make it a truly inspiring instrument.

SOLD: National 12 Fret NRP Steel Body w/ HSC

National 12 Fret NRP Steel Body w/ HSC

When you pick up a national resonator guitar and begin playing, you can instantly see the reasons why players prefer it. They are not only easy to hold and play, the volume and tone delivered almost sounds like it has it's own rhythm section built in. Even the simplest rhythm passages take on a supercharged quality. No wood guitar can be as explosive while also providing sweet sustaining slide passages.

Many famous blues artists of the past have used Nationals and the sound they acheived has become the standard. This NRP captures the look and feel of an original 12 fret National Duolian and has that classic sound that is instantly recognizable. The thin-gauge steel body is highlighted by flat cut f holes, a formed back, and a period-correct, traditional non-ribbed coverplate. A beautiful hand-painted vintage green sunburst finish provides a unique look complimenting the sound of this instrument quite nicely. Vintage-style plain tuners, 12 fret mohogany neck, ebony nut, and National stamped headstock complete the look of this classic.

SOLD: *New Model!* National M-1 Mahogany Body Tricone

*New Model!* National M-1 Mahogany Body Tricone

Since the very first National Tricone graced our walls, the idea of a wood bodied tricone has been in the back of our minds. After tireless research and design, the boys and girls at National have made our dreams come true! National Reso-Phonic Guitars is proud to introduce to you our new wood body M-1 Tricone! The first one sold before it even came through the door. Thankfully, I got a chance to play it beforehand. It is, quite honestly, one of our favorite Nationals to date.

Wood bodied resonators have a mellow, warm tone with killer low-end. The beauty of the tricone design is the increased sustain without sacrificing any volume; ideal for slide and open tunings. Using wood with a tricone resonator brings sweet, harmonically rich overtones with an unbelievable bottom end. Fingerpicked tunes bellow and practically waft throughout the air. Put a slide to it, and the sustain is unmatched. The use of wood is not only tonal, though. Weighing in at about 3.3 lighter than its brass bodied brethren, the M1 is a relief to tricone players around the world.

Astetically, the M1 is a class act. It is built on an all-mahogany body, bound in grained ivoroid. The coverplate is actually metal, but painted with a mahogany burst finish to match the body - a brilliant move in our opinion. With the versatility and unique tone the M1 produces, be sure to play one before any other.

SOLD: National ResoLectric

National ResoLectric

Without a doubt one of the most boss resonators in our shop - we all drool over each and every ResoLectric that walks through our doors.

National's ResoLectric has gone through a few changes in its 19 years of production. The current model uses an audiophile-quality Highlander preamp to mix both the magnetic and piezoelectric pickups. A Jason Lollar P-90 pickup sits in the neck position, and a Highlander piezo transducer is fitted under the saddle. The output of each pickup is controlled by independent volume knobs, with a master volume knob to control the instruments overall output level. A 3-way toggle switch selects which pickups are active. The solid mahogany body is capped with a figured maple top bound in ivoroid. The figured maple neck clears 14 frets to the body, highlighted with a diamond inlaid, rosewood fretboard.

SOLD: National Custom "One-of-a-Kind" Style O w/ Lightning Bolt Design

National Custom "One-of-a-Kind" Style O w/ Lightning Bolt Design

Can you believe it? Yet ANOTHER one-off, custom guitar from the fine artists at National Reso-Phonic! Let's take a look at what we have in store for you this time.

While we are all familiar with the distictive Hawaiian palm tree design that adorns the Style O we know and love today, collectors and history buffs will recall a handful of alternate and prototype appointments that made their way onto this flagship model in that past. One such design screams 1930s art deco - the lightning bolt design. This brass bodied instrument is polished to a mirror-like shine, nickel plated, and finally etched with the lightning bolt deisgn. The maple neck is finished in a traditional sunburst. An ivoroid bound ebony fretboard and vintage style tuners complete the look of this timeless classic.

There weren't many built, as the Hawaiian design quickly rose to fame - but we are thrilled to have a one of the only reissues in existance! When Bob Brozman, esteemed National player and historian, felt the need to retire one of his vintage Nationals; the folks at National Reso-Phonic were kind enough to provide him with the only other Lightning Bolt Style O in production. Call or email us today for more information!
