Pre-Owned: 2011 Collings 0001G German Spruce Mahogany

Hear This Instrument: 2011 Collings 0001G German Spruce Mahogany
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2011 Collings 0001G German Spruce Mahogany

The Collings 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it’s the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance.

This 000 features a German Spruce top-wood. German Spruce, a special appointment on this guitar, provides a rich, complex tone and is perfect for many players who play fingerstyle as well as flatpick. German Spruce is stiffer than Sitka, providing more headroom and power, yet more flexible than Adirondack so that it responds well to a lighter attack.  This allows the guitar to be played fingerstyle while maintaining a high level of comfort, without sacrificing the invaluable headroom offered by a stiffer spruce.  It can take heavy flatpicking and just keep getting louder!

The tone of this guitar is massive, very deserving of the Collings' name on the headstock. Low end is rich and powerful, while the highs are crystal clear and extremely responsive. The overall sound is loud and punchy and sounds incredibly pure and sweet played softly.

The custom appointments to this 2011 Collings 0001G include a Slotted Peghead and Collings installed Strap Button. This guitar is in excelent condition with the exception of minor dents and scratches to the top, back and sides, none of which are though the finish and can be seen in the detailed images below. There is no distinguishable fretwear and it includes the original hardshell case.

Collings D1A Adirondack and Mahogany with Adirondack Bracing

Collings D1A Adirondack and Mahogany with Adirondack Bracing

Here is another fantastic Collings D1A featuring an Adirondack Spruce top, rich Mahogany back and sides, and a custom order 1 3/4" nut width for those who prefer a bit wider neck and a cut through saddle.

This D1A screams with rich, clear, and powerful tone. The Mahogany back and sides are perfect for players who find rosewood too boomy. Lead players will appreciate the enhanced note definition and clarity, especially through the midrange frequencies. Famous flatpicker Clarence White reportedly used a D-18 for most of his solos, which has Mahogany back and sides, even though he is known for making the rosewood D-28 the famous monster it is today. This D1A would excel at that task, providing even further note definition than most old D-18s!

This D1A is also very loud. The player of this fine instrument will have no issue being heard in acoustic jams. It is a cannon that will cut through a jam session, yet can still sound sensitive and lyrical on fingerpicked tunes.

Pre-Owned: 2011 Collings CJ Adirondack and Mahogany Short Scale

2011 Collings CJ Adirondack and Mahogany Short Scale

2011 Collings CJ Adirondack and Mahogany Short Scale

The Collings Jumbo, or CJ, is Collings' version of the classic slope-shouldered dreadnought, a shape that has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years. While the CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional dreadnought, it has a distinctly different tone. Despite its large size this model works well with the optional shorter string scale, resulting in a somewhat percussive bottom end ideal for acoustic blues or other styles that benefit from a more controlled bass response. Of all the Collings body shapes, this is the one most often requested with a sunburst top finish, as this guitar beautifully demonstrates.

Modeled closely after a pre-war J45, the topwood on this guitar is Adirondack, which is the legendary wood used at the pre-war time, and known for it's strength, it's clear precise note definition, and volume.  The back and sides are Mahogany, which produces clear, distinct notes and is very well appreciated in the recording studio, as it is known to be a bit more balanced in front of a microphone than rosewood. There is a definite reason, the Slope shoulder design is referred to as the "Workhorse"!

Custom appointments on this 2011 Collings CJ Mh are a beautiful Tiger Stripe pickguard, short scale option (24 - 7/8", more traditionally inline with a pre-war Slope Dread), and a professionally installed ebony strap button. There are very slight scratches on pickguard and body however, they are barely visible as you will see from the detailed images below. Original Hardshell Case Included.

Pre-Owned: 2009 Collings City Limits Jazz Amber Burst

2009 Collings City Limits Jazz Amber Burst

2009 Collings City Limits Jazz Amber Burst

Thin, light, and exquisite, the Collings City Limits Jazz commands attention. Built with a fully hollow one-piece mahogany body, carved European spruce top, and modern stylings, this sleek thin-bodied archtop is made for jazz.

Collings achieves unmatched tone and response out of this archtop with the use of innovative bracing patterns.  The carved European Spruce top is cross braced on the inside, much like a flat-top, as opposed to bar bracing, which is traditional for archtops.  Each brace must be carved to match the inside of the arch.  Bill wanted a more dynamic flat-top response and he has certainly met his goal with the City Limits Jazz.

The pickup incorporated into this 2009 Collins City Limits Jazz guitar is a Kent Armstrong.   The pickup is mounted to the pickguard and floats beautifully at the base of the fretboard.  Discreet volume and tone controls are found on the bottom edge of the pickguard so that they don't detract from the ultra-clean lines of such a beautiful guitar.

The name Kent Armstrong has long been associated with the finest pickups available for jazz guitar. Kent has a virtual monopoly on the jazz guitar market, and currently produces pickups for nearly every builder and manufacturer of jazz guitars worldwide, including Stromberg Guitars, Eastman Strings, D'Angelico, Buscarino, Larkin, Hofner, Mortoro, Timtone, DeCava, etc.

This 2009 City Limits Jazz guitar is in excellent + condition with only 3 small impressions in the back of the neck close to the body joint  which are barely visible and do not extend through the finish. Additionally, one small ding in the purfling, bottom bout, treble side near the input jack. The Original hardshell case included.

Collings SoCo 16 LC Tobacco Sunburst

Collings SoCo 16 LC Tobacco Sunburst

Collings SoCo 16 LC Tobacco Sunburst

Bill Collings' and his shop in Austin, Texas has been building some of the finest acoustic guitars for decades and has recently turned his attention to electric guitars. The result has been nothing short of astonishing. He has reinvigorated the industry with his take on classic design. Named afer Austin's funky and eclectic South Congress Avenue, the SoCo  is all about attitude. This model brings in elements from both the I-35 and CL models to create a unique hybrid that is all its own. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

Since Collings moved into the electric arena in 2006, Bill has had an interest in the role that laminate woods play in the tone of classic semi-hollow electrics and jazz guitars, and it was only a matter of time before he delved into a new variation.  After much research and experimentation, and a few dissected classic guitars later... they are ready to introduce this exciting new line of electric guitars.

As the latest addition to the SoCo series, the semi-hollow SoCo 16 LC features high quality laminate construction and a larger 16" body size. Built with vintage tone in mind, the larger single cutaway design and laminate materials provide an even and focused tonal response with added warmth for single-line soloing. This Collings SoCo16 model features a flared headstock and is finished off with a gorgeous Tobacco Sun Burst finish.

Compared to the solid wood semi-hollow models, the laminate construction sends more controlled information to the pickups, allowing Collings to use higher output electronics.  These guitars feature the standard Lollar Imperials, as opposed to the low-wind Imperials used in the other Collings models. This creates tone that is evenly balanced with the smooth response that many players look for in arched top electric guitars.  We wouldn't describe the tone of the laminate guitars as being better or worse than the solid equivalent.  Instead, they should be viewed as two different guitars with two different sets of tonal characteristics.

Collings collaborates with Jason Lollar for all their pickup designs. While the particular pickups they use are specially wound to Collings specifications, they are very near in design to the Lollar standard Imperial Humbucking models. Lollar manages to capture the airy top end, tight lows, balanced midrange, and complex overtones of the best original PAF pickups.

Collings D1A Adirondack with Vintage Now Neck

Collings D1A Adirondack with Vintage Now Neck

Collings D1A Adirondack with Vintage Now Neck

Collings brings new clarity to the depth and warmth associated with large, deep-bodied dreadnought guitars. The bass response makes the dreadnought ideal for vocal accompaniment, however, Collings D1 Series Mahogany dreads are employed by some of the busiest bluegrass flatpickers in the business, such as Andy Falco of the Stringdusters and Adam Aijala of Yonder Mountain String Band.

This Collings D1AVN is extraordinarily loud. The Adirondack Spruce top loves to be played loud and provides ample headroom and power needed to cut through bluegrass ensembles. The Mahogany back and sides keep your lead lines clear and distinct, just like the classic flatpicking recordings we've grown to love from players like Clarence White, Doc Watson, and Norman Blake.

Loudness aside, this guitar is also incredibly balanced in it's frequency response. Notes are rich and full all the way up and down the neck. The midrange and high-end sparkle will cut through any studio or on-stage mix with ease. The lows are balanced, defined, well rounded, and never boomy.

The Vintage Now neck is a custom appointment on this instrument and is coupled with a 1 3/4" nut and 2 1/4" string spacing at the saddle. Collings Vintage Now neck is the perfect compromise for many players that think a modern neck is too flat in profile, yet the typical neck on a 40's style instrument is too thick. Collings' exclusive neck profile is uniquely adapted to players looking for vintage width and girth, with contemporary playability. The slightly wider string spacing at both ends of the guitar also makes fingerstyle playing and chordal accompaniment more enjoyable. With a traditional "cut-through" saddle there should be no doubt as to the inspiration for this beast.

Collings 002H German Spruce

Collings 002H German Spruce

Collings 002H German Spruce

The Collings 00 series guitars produce tone that is balanced and precise... from simple vocal accompaniment to fingerpicking to ragtime solos, this guitar is well suited for a wide variety of playing styles. The 00 is a guitar shape that was first designed around the time of the Civil War to keep up with the louder banjos and mandolins of the time. The comfortable size and timeless appearance of the 00 is matched by the ease of playing that a wider neck and shorter string scale afford.

German Spruce, a special appointment on this guitar, provides a rich, complex tone and is the perfect topwood for many players who play fingerstyle as well as flatpick. German Spruce is stiffer than Sitka, providing more headroom and power, yet more flexible than Adirondack so that it responds well to a lighter attack.

Other appointments include a custom nut width of 1 3/4" for those who find the standard 1 13/16" a bit too wide for their playing style.

This guitar is very responsive and will suit the needs of fingerstyle players very well.  The German top can also take an impressive amount of flatpicking, though the 00 body size is more suited to players with a lighter touch.  Tone is very clear with a vibrant and pleasant high end and just enough lows to balance the tone across the fretboard.

Collings OM1C Pete Huttlinger Signature Model Sitka Spruce and Mahogany

Collings OM1C Pete Huttlinger Signature Model Sitka Spruce and Mahogany

From Collings' Website:

Pete Huttlinger is recognized around the world as one of the greatest fingerstyle guitar players of our time. His amazing ability to play melody, harmony, rhythm and everything in between has long captivated fans and fellow musicians alike. Pete bought his first Collings in March of 1997. Over the years, he has continually supported and promoted Collings instruments and, in the process, has become a great friend. Unfortunately, our friend's life has recently been turned upside down while he deals with a serious medical condition.

Pete has a congenital heart defect and has become extremely ill during the past year. He suffered a massive stroke last fall and then underwent major heart surgery in May. This procedure left him with a mechanical pump implanted in his heart, requiring him to carry a battery pack that must be worn at all times. He is now gaining strength and is awaiting a heart transplant. Our prayers and heartfelt wishes are with him and his wife Erin.

For decades, his beautiful playing and warm spirit have uplifted many hearts. Now, we would like to give something back. In his honor, we are proud to introduce the limited edition "Pete Huttlinger Signature OM1" model. We will limit the number built to 50 and each of these special guitars will have a custom signed and numbered label.

The Pete Huttlinger model is an OM1 Cutaway with Pete's signature elegantly inlaid in the 12th fret. We'll be offering the guitar in both Sitka and Adirondack top versions to reflect Pete's two main touring guitars. To help Pete and Erin with their astronomical medical costs, $1,000 will be donated for each guitar sold. Any additional donations can be made to the Pete Huttlinger medical fund through his website at http://www.petehuttlinger.com.

Pre-Owned: 2011 Collings C10 MhSB All-Mahogany with Full Body Sunburst

Hear This Instrument: 2011 Collings C10 MhSB All-Mahogany with Full Body Sunburst
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2011 Collings C10 MhSB All-Mahogany with Full Body Sunburst

Based on guitars first introduced around the same time as the OM, the Collings C10 is a leaner alternative, with the narrow waist and small upper bout resulting in a precise, focused response.  The smaller upper bout is gratifying and a true dream to play. It's this unique body size that allows the C10 to project a more focused mid-range then other smaller bodied guitars. This mid-range is combined with a crisp low-end and rounded, mellow trebles.  Of all of Collings' acoustic models, the C10 is perhaps the easiest for electric guitarists to adapt to, thanks in part to the more rounded neck profile.

This C10 is built with an all-mahogany body so the tone is immediately responsive with a warm, clear tone with a nice sparkle on the high end.  The 1 3/4" nut width makes gives you plenty of room for complex chord shapes while the ivoroid bindings on the body, neck, and peghead compliment the full-body sunburst finish perfectly, providing a very classy finishing touch. The C10 is an ideal accompaniment for complex chordal playing, as well as down home blues - Piedmont style! The Bass response is immediately noticeable from this smaller bodied guitar, while it never sacrifices the clarity that this body size provides.

This instrument is in like new condition, exhibiting no scratches, dings or dents on the guitar. The Original Collings Hardshell Case is included.

Collings 02HG German Spruce Top and Indian Rosewood Back and Sides

Hear This Instrument: Collings 02HG German Spruce and Indian Rosewood
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings 02HG German Spruce Top and Indian Rosewood Back and Sides

Collings 02HG German Spruce Top and Indian Rosewood Back and Sides

With the exception of the Baby, the 0 is the smallest guitar from Collings and is offered with the same shorter scale found on the 12-fret 00. Although measuring only 13.5 inches in width (smaller than a typical classical guitar), the Collings 0 has tone and volume that belies its first impression as being less than full-sized. It can double as a travel guitar or a small OM, performing both roles equally well. The same neck and woods options offered with larger Collings models are available on the 0 as well, giving players an almost infinite range of tonal possibilities.

Collings Single 0 series guitars are always highly impressive, projecting an almost unbelievable sound that is full of low end with an overall tone that is focused, powerful, and highly responsive.  This 02HG is no different.

Other appointments include a custom nut width of 1 3/4" for those who find the standard 1 11/16" a bit too wide for their playing style.

This guitar is very responsive and will suit the needs of fingerstyle players very well.  The German top can also take an impressive amount of flatpicking, though the 0 body size is more suited to players with a lighter touch.  Tone is very clear with a vibrant and pleasant high end and just enough lows to balance the tone across the fretboard.
