Collings MT2 V A Style Mandolin Adirondack Spruce and Flame Maple with Sunburst and Varnish

The MT2V is Collings' fully appointed A-model, built with an Adirondack Red Spruce top and Custom Sugar Maple back and sides and finished with a hand-rubbed varnish.

This mandolin has a tone that is rich in low mids and very smooth in the treble range. The Varnish finish makes the Collings MT2 that much warmer, making the tone sound much deeper with lots of warmth and definition. A custom wide nut width of 1 3/16" gives your left hand plenty of room to fret notes cleanly and accurately and is especially nice when transitioning from guitar to a mandolin.

This Collings MT2V also features custom engraved tuners with pearl buttons, grained ivoroid top/back/neck binding and a gorgeous varnish sunburst finish, which aside from being both functional and visual, actually balances the tone when recordings, similar to engaging a high-pass filter on the microphone. It reduces proximity effect, or the boominess that can arise when recording close miked. The pickguard will also do an exceptional job at protecting the beautiful varnish finish.

2004 Dale Unger Archtop American Dream

Hear This Instrument: 2004 Dale Unger Archtop American Dream
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
2004 Dale Unger Archtop American Dream

Luthier Dale Unger was raised in Nazareth, PA, and grew up around the great craftsmen of CF Martin and Co. Building his first guitar in 1977, Unger was introduced to archtop guru Bob Benedetto in 1993, and began building the instruments that would become the American Archtop series of guitars. Now, using patterns, molds and designs created by Benedetto, Dale builds instruments that combine high quality construction with admirable affordability.

A full depth 16" Venetian cutaway guitar, the American Dream is built with a custom designed arched body made of thin, lightweight, maple laminate with attractive flame figure in the top, back, sides and neck. This design produces an unusually handsome instrument that is nicely resonant, but stronger, less weather sensitive, and more feedback resistant than typical acoustic archtops.

With it's compact 16" body, X- braced soundboard, and built-in Kent Armstrong floating pickup, the American Dream is an ideal instrument for the working player who wants an instrument that sounds great through the amp, but can be played unplugged around the house.

The neck is gently rounded with a slight U profile, with nicely crowned medium frets over a fingerboard of solid black ebony. All handmade, with sleek clean lines, the American Dream includes premium features like solid ebony hardware and matching Schaller 16X1 tuners.

Solid ebony hardware includes contoured tailpiece, finger rest, and compensated adjustable ebony bridge; Schaller 16X1 tuners with black keys; Armstrong PAF pickup with volume and tone controls; endpin jack. Arched laminated German spruce top; arched laminated Bigleaf maple back; solid maple sides with Venetian cutaway; 3 piece tiger flame maple neck; solid ebony fingerboard; black body binding, and graphite nut.

This 2004 Dale Unger Archtop American Dream is in excellent condition with only a few surface scratches, and slight finish separation around the tuners and logo. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.

2005 Gibson ES 175 Vintage Sunburst

2005 Gibson ES 175 Vintage Sunburst

The Les Paul's impact on the worlds of rock 'n' roll and blues was absolutely titanic. In the realm of jazz, the instrument that had the same monumental effect is the Gibson ES-175.

When the ES-175 debuted with a run of 129 in 1949, it nudged aside the ES-150, which had been the guitar of choice for jazz innovators like Charlie Christian and Eddie Durham. The ES-175 also proved a more manageable and less costly alternative to the L-5s thanks to its smaller body size and laminated top.

Due to its enduring appeal – a blend of comfortable playability and warm sonic versatility with presence to spare – the ES-175 has found its way into the hands and hearts of generations of players. Its success leapt across genres to play a role in defining the sound of early rock when Elvis Presley’s guitarist Scott Moore acquired his first ES-295 – essentially a model based on the ES-175 but equipped with two P-90 pickups – and accompanied the King on his Sun Records classics. Other great ES-175 players include Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, Keith Richards, and Yes’ Steve Howe.

The denomination 175 came from the original price tag of the first ES, which was $175.00.

The ES-175 was the first Gibson electric guitar to feature a Florentine cutaway beneath the neck, giving easy access to all 20 frets. It also had a carved rosewood bridge. For it’s first four years the model came with one single-coil P-90 pickup. In the early ‘50s, more and more models were produced and sold, indicating the ES-175’s rapid rise in popularity.

In 1953, a two-pickup model was introduced... receiving an update in 1957 when its design incorporated two humbucking pickups, as featured on this guitar.

The modern recreation of this great guitar made by Gibson’s Memphis Custom Shop owes its lineage to the ES-175 of ’57. The body is a comfortable 16-inches wide, 20-inches long and 3-inches deep with a curly laminated maple top, back, and rims. There’s multi-ply binding on top and single-ply on the back, with nickel hardware including a ABR-1 bridge and a trapeze tailpiece.

The Custom Shop ES-175’s one-piece mahogany neck supports the same 20-fret rosewood fingerboard that the guitar’s always offered, with beautiful pearl split parallelogram inlays, single-ply binding and the distinctive, comfortable classic ES-175 neck profile. Scale length is 24 3/4-inches with an 1 11/16-inch width at the nut. The tuners are vintage tulip style.

The pickups are Gibson’s versatile workhorses: ’57 Classic humbuckers – controlled by two volume and two tone pots and a three-way selector switch. Before each one leaves the Memphis shop it is examined and dressed by one of the company’s state-of-the-art Pleck machines, providing high-tech assurance of optimum playability.

This 2005 Gibson ES 175 Vintage Sunburst is in excellent + condition with only a few surface scratches which we attempted to capture in the detailed photos below. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.

1999 Taylor 615 CE Jumbo Cutaway Sitka Spruce and Maple

The Taylor maple model 615-CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar has been affectionately referred to as a guitar cannon with good reason. It has excellent projection. The distinctive blend of big leaf maple and Sitka spruce creates a bright, crisp tone with strong projection and warm overtones.

The Jumbo Electric-Acoustic delivers the extra-deep resonance and volume that come with a larger sound chamber together with its own signature subtleties. Revoicing has sharpened its tonal difference from the Dreadnought. With a huge presence, the Jumbo is perfectly suited for aggressive strumming.

The finish on the 615-CE Jumbo Cutaway -that is used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides- was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

Gorgeous appointments include the beautiful translucent blue finish, an ebony headstock overlay, ebony bridge, white binding, abalone soundhole rosette, and abalone leaf inlays.

This 1999 Taylor 615 CE Jumbo Cutaway Sitka Spruce and Maple is in excellent condition with only a few minor surface scratches which we have attempted to capture in the detailed photos below. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.

Collings City Limits Deluxe Premium Quilt Top with Acid Wash Finish and Wraparound Bridge

Hear This Instrument: Collings City Limits Deluxe Premium Quilt Top with Acid Wash Finish and Wraparound Bridge
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings City Limits Deluxe Premium Quilt Top with Acid Wash Finish and Wraparound Bridge

Bill Collings has been making some of the most highly regarded acoustic guitars in the world for quite some time, so when he decided to build electric guitars, musicians were chomping at the bit to see what would happen. The flawless construction, the incredible attention to detail, and the Collings quality are all here. Collings has redesigned a classic guitar with players in mind and the now famous meticulous construction, and attention to detail is nothing short of astonishing. This City Limits Deluxe with Flamed Maple top, is the ultimate Les Paul and with Lollar Humbuckers, this guitar was born for rock and roll!

From Collings' website: "Crafted with the finest seasoned maple and mahogany, the CL Deluxe is built for tone. Lightweight, resonant mahogany combined with a carefully hand-set mortise and tenon neck joint bring tonal complexity and sustain to the table in spades. Sleekly contoured for comfort and style, we've brought new life to an American classic." We, honestly, could not agree more. The CL Deluxe is clearly influenced by classic American solidbodies of the past, and to say they hit their mark is an understatement.

The body is cleverly designed with ergonomic contouring at both sides of the waist. This commonly overlooked feature is quite brilliant, making already effortless playability even more comfortable. Weighing in at a just over 8 lb., the CL Deluxe is easy to manage and perfectly balanced. Whether on the stage or in the studio, the CL Deluxe feels right at home. The neck profile is a well rounded C shape that is unique to the Collings lineup.

The neck joint is angled toward the cutaway; following the body lines. This slight change fills your hand in a more natural way, easing the curse that other single cutaway guitars have. Playability is what we have come to expect from a Collings - effortless and untroubled up and down the fingerboard. Combine that with Collings reputation for intonation perfection - and you have a force to be reckoned with.

This instrument is equipped with a single Lollar Imperial High Wind Zibra Humbucker. The High Wind Humbucker Pickups are similar in overall tone to the Imperials, but their higher output retains some of the airiness and balanced tone of the originals, while pushing your amplifier into distortion faster and harder. Creamy treble, smooth and fat bottom end with softer attack and lots of sustain. Alnico 2 magnets.

Collings is renowned for their nitro finishes on acoustic guitars - and the story remains the same here. The finish on the CL Deluxe is nothing short of perfect - incredibly thin and flat as can be. The thin nitro finish allows this guitar to breathe and resonate like the aged vintage pieces of old. The unplugged acoustic qualities the CL Deluxe exhibits are simply remarkable. It's the little considerations like this that will satisfy even the most discerning of vintage fans. The beautiful Premium Quilted Maple top is hand stained with this beautiful Acid Wash finish. Aesthetic balance is a bit of a passion for Mr. Bill Collings, and each of his electrics exhibit their own understated style - unique from model to model.

How did Collings create this gorgeous Acid Wash finish? It begins with a multi-step stain treatment which brings out maple figuring. The stain is applied and then strategically rubbed off until the desired effect is accomplished. Next the top is sealed and the burst master creates final finishing touches around the edges.

The fit and finish of the CL Deluxe may be astonishing to some - but it is what we have come to expect from the folks at Collings. No detail is left incomplete, yet nothing is overdone or exploited. The body is bound with grained ivoroid, a refreshing change from blindingly stark white plastic. The truss rod cover, tuning buttons, pickup knobs and covers all share this same material - and its one of the many features that set Collings apart.

Collings OM1 Maple A SB Adirondack Spruce and Maple with Full Body Sunburst

The Collings OM1 A is a classic Collings model, a shop favorite, and while it takes it's inspiration from the original models, Collings has subtly upgraded these with their signature style, and tone. OM stands for Orchestra Model, but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Collings has transformed the standard OM, into a true "do it all" instrument.

This OM1 A packs a serious punch, with killer volume and presence - easily acting as a dreadnought alternative. This  OM1 A has a superb balance and clarity, each note stands out in chordal accompaniment, as well as lead lines. The Adirondack top adds a tremendous amount of headroom, crisp trebles, and gut-punching mids. It takes to a flatpick beautifully, but sings with bare fingers as well. You know the feeling when you're holding that guitar? - this is that guitar.

The Maple back and sides is a stiff and stable tone wood with a loud and bright voice. Highly reflective, Maple balances a tight crisp high end with warm lows.

The custom 1 3/4" nut width which allows our fingerpicking friends to play effortlessly and bend chords easily.

Finished off with gorgeous tortoise body, fretboard and peghead binding, Black /White wood nitrate strip rosette, Black / White wood purfling, 1-style walnut backstrip, and custom full body sunburst, this guitar not only sounds fantastic, it provides a classic style and elegance unlike any other.

Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings 03 Maple 12 Fret with Sitka Spruce and Maple

With the exception of the Baby, the 0 is our smallest guitar and is offered with the same shorter scale found on the 12-fret 00. Although measuring only 13.5 inches in width (smaller than a typical classical guitar), the Collings 0 has tone and volume that belies its first impression as being less than full-sized.

It can double as a travel guitar or a small OM, performing both roles equally well. The same neck and woods options offered with larger Collings models are available on the 0 as well, giving players an almost infinite range of tonal possibilities.

This instrument features a Sitka Spruce top combined with custom Maple back and sides. The Maple chosen for these instrument is absolutely gorgeous and sounds phenomenal. Maple is especially warm in tone, quite different than you would expect a maple guitar to sound like.  Collings always does exquisite things with their woods and this guitar fits the bill visually and sonically.

Sitka is very lush and has a warm, rich low end. It is ideal for flatpickers who don't require the stiffness of Adirondack, offering more volume and responsiveness from a lighter touch.

Thank you Brian Clark for the sound file contribution.

Collings 001 Sitka Spruce and Maple Short Scale

Collings' offers the 00 in its original, 12-fret configuration, a guitar shape that was first designed around the time of the Civil War. Its dimensions are similar to a typical classical guitar, with a slotted headstock and small pyramid bridge.

The comfortable size and timeless appearance of the Collings 00 is matched by the ease of playing a wide neck and shorter string scale affords. The tone is balanced and precise, and we've seen it adopted for a wide range of playing styles from simple vocal accompaniment to ragtime solos.

The Maple on this guitar is especially warm in tone, quite different than you would expect a maple guitar to sound like from another builder.  Collings always does exquisite things with their woods and this guitar fits the bill visually and sonically.

The 24 7/8" short scale allows our fingerpicking friends to play effortlessly, bend easily, while still enjoying the bigger bass response additionally, the comfortable 1 3/4" nut width gives you plenty of room for complex chord shapes. Collings C10 Maple Custom Cut Sitka Spruce and Maple with Cutaway

Hear This Instrument: Collings C10 Maple Custom Cut Sitka Spruce and Maple with Cutaway
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings C10 Maple Custom Cut Sitka Spruce and Maple with Cutaway

Based on guitars first introduced around the same time as the OM, the Collings C10 is a leaner alternative, with the narrow waist and small upper bout resulting in a precise, focused response. Of all our acoustic models, the C10 is perhaps the easiest for electric guitarists to adapt to, thanks in part to the more rounded neck profile.

The small oval neck heel is ideally suited to the optional cutaway, which allows unrestricted access to the upper frets. With its unique shape and asymmetrical headstock's lines echoed in the curvilinear pickguard, C10 models offer a welcome alternative for those who find that most small acoustic guitars look too much alike.

The Collings C10 comes standard with a Sitka Spruce top. Sitka is ideal for players who find Adirondack Red Spruce too punchy, bright, and stiff - but do not want to sacrifice on clarity. Sitka Spruce is a versatile topwood that accentuates the warm round aspects of the guitar's tone. The top end is sweet and crisp; with a driving, focused midrange and low-end. It strums with the best of them, but has a neck that flatpicks beautifully across the board. There is a reason Colling's are revered for their C10's!

The custom Maple back and sides are absolutely gorgeous and sound phenomenal. Maple is especially warm in tone, quite different than you would expect a maple guitar to sound like from another builder.  Collings always does exquisite things with their woods and this guitar fits the bill visually and sonically.

This guitar is perfect for players who like a blend of brightness, projection and warm overtones.

Collings 0001 Sitka Spruce and Flamed Maple

Hear This Instrument: Collings 0001 Sitka Spruce and Flamed Maple
Recorded In-House on a Sony PCM-D50 handheld recorder with no compression or eq.
Collings 0001 Sitka Spruce and Flamed Maple

The 12-fret 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it's the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance.

Featuring a Sitka Spruce top and Flame Maple back and sides, this guitar has a clear, focused tone that is rich in lows without overpowering the balanced high end. The Sitka Spruce top on this instrument responds well to fingerstyle and moderate flatpicking, with round notes and lush chords up and down the neck.

Flamed Maple is a stiff and stable tone wood with a loud and bright voice. Highly reflective, Flamed Maple balances a tight crisp high end with warm lows.

Additionally, this instrument features a custom nut width of 1 3/4", a custom 3-style backstrip and custom tortoise style bindings on the fingerboard and peghead.

The Collings 0001 models are always some of the most versatile instruments in the shop, and this one is no different.... it will be right at home in jam circles, on stage, or in the studio, regardless the style of music.
