Collings OM2H A SR Adirondack Spruce and Sacha Rosewood

This guitar is a recording engineer’s dream! All of this is wrapped up in a guitar that you will feel comfortable sitting on the couch playing for hours, recording on music row, or playing on any stage. Simply, yet elegantly appointed, this is a true family heirloom for  generations to come.

The OM body size has been favored by fingerstyle players for years, but has made its mark in flatpicking and strumming with its unique clarity and projection. Living up to the pedigree and namesake Collings has established, this Collings OM2H A is no exception and is a true delight to play.

This OM2H A boasts the projection and tonal clarity Collings is known for, while still maintaining a good measure of warmth on the bottom end. The body size of the OM lends itself towards a more focused and defined tone than a typical dreadnought size, yet the folks at Collings build with volume in mind. This Collings OM2H A no doubt represents the defined aspects of the OM; with a crisp, clear tone across the entire spectrum.

In this special OM2H A SR, Adirondack is matched with the Sacha Rosewood for obvious reasons. Adirondack provides a high stiffness across and along the grain, making it one of the go-to soundboards for flat-pickers. It has the highest cross-sectional strength and across-the-grain stiffness of all spruce species. The Adirondack Spruce top makes for an OM sized guitar that, boast virtually unlimited headroom and power.  It is extremely comfortable to hold and play, making it nearly impossible to put down, and very little tone is sacrificed front the OM size.

The scientific name for Sacha Rosewood or "Higuerilla" is Micandra spruceana. Sacha Rosewood is an excellent wood for acoustic guitar backs and sides. It's appearance is very reminiscent of traditional old world Madagascar Rosewood with rich colors ranging from light coffee to mid orange brown with dark brown stripes. The sapwood is strong and stable with a light-beige color, so there is no jarring contrast, and it looks fantastic on the sides of the instrument. When book matched, Sacha Rosewood presents a strong and colorful linear figure for backboards.

Tonally, Sacha Rosewood reminds us of Palo Escrito (the Rosewood from Mexico known for making great sounding instruments), Madagascar Rosewood with a bold glassy tap tone that belies the low weight of the wood.  While the overall tonal palette settles in tones midway between mahogany and rosewood, it delivers an immensely satisfying richer overtones akin to Brazilian Rosewood.  When coupled with an Adirondack Spruce top, Sacha Rosewood brings the guitar strong fundamentals, a lightning quick response, clear trebles, well defined mid-range, and a solid bass register - or in other words, simply wild (*) !!

[*Interesting side note about this species... From the web, "Although the government of Peru has attempted to standardize the language, in reality this is an ideal.  The letters kc and q, the vowels ao and u, for example, are pretty much interchangable. The (   ) after ch and in some words, for instance, is often missing in common usage; i.e., sacha means wild, sach’a means forest".]

Collings OM2HABRA Adirondack Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood

It’s been more than several years since Collings has built Brazilian guitars for their broader group of authorized dealers. We are pleased to announce a very limited run of new Brazilian model Collings – possibly their last.

It is our privilege to introduce this limited run of Brazilian models with our OM2HA, featuring an Adirondack Red Spruce sound board, Adirondack bracing, and Brazilian Rosewood back & sides.  The Collings Crew continues to amaze us with their challenge of building a small bodied guitar yet with such a powerful voice.

Brazilian Rosewood combines the attributes of the two most common back and side woods, Indian Rosewood, and Mahogany. Brazilian has the ability to provide lushness of Indian Rosewood, while never sacrificing the individual note clarity you get from Mahogany. This guitar is a recording engineer’s dream! All of this is wrapped up in a guitar that you will feel comfortable sitting on the couch playing for hours, recording on music row, or playing on any stage. Simply, yet elegantly appointed, this is a true family heirloom for  generations to come.

2010 Collings OM2HA Custom Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany with Style 42 Snowflakes and Deep Body

'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. This guitar does feature a custom deep body, deeper than the standard 4 1/8", the 4 3/4" body depth offers a more balanced tone with deeper bass response while still maintaining the playability and comfort of  the OM body shape.

This Custom 2010 Collings OM2H from Collings features an Adirondack Spruce top with custom Mahogany back and sides.  Also customized is the Abalone Rosette, Style 42 Snowflakes, flourish peghead overlay,  and the use of Adirondack Bracing for the top braces.

Adirondack Spruce is the legendary tonewood used on the early guitars we have all grown to love. The stiffness to weight ratio makes Adirondack great for players who dig in a bit harder and desire virtually unlimited headroom.  The use of Adirondack Spruce for the bracing makes the bracing lighter and more responsive, offering a more efficient transfer of energy throughout the top.

This 2010 Collings OM2H is in absolutely pristine mint condition. Hard to distinguish used from new this guitar has  just a few minor scratches on the pickguard and one 1mm ding to the top that is so small it was unable to be photographed.

SOLD: Collings OM2HA Custom Adirondack Spruce and Indian Rosewood with Adirondack Bracing and Deep Body

Collings OM2HA Custom Adirondack Spruce and Indian Rosewood with Adirondack Bracing and Deep Body

'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.

Here is a special order OM2HA from Collings featuring an Adirondack Spruce top with custom Indian Rosewood back and sides and the use of Adirondack Bracing for the top braces.

SOLD: Collings OM2HAMRDDSS Madagascar Rosewood – Adirondack Spruce – Deep Body – Short Scale – Adirondack Bracing

Collings OM2HAMRDDSS Madagascar Rosewood Adirondack Spruce Deep Body Short Scale Adirondack Bracing

The set of Madagascar Rosewood was picked out especially for this guitar... our customer wanted straight grain Madagascar and Collings found just what he was looking for!  This OM is loaded with plenty of custom features to set the guitar apart from the crowd.  In addition to Madagascar Rosewood, the guitar features a gorgeous Adirondack Spruce top, a deep body depth for added bass response, and a short scale length for smooth and easy playability.

Madagascar Rosewood is known for being the most similar tonewood to the Brazilian species.  Offering many of the same sonic characteristics, Madagascar is also becoming difficult to harvest and export.  Madagascar has much of the same rich overtone range as Brazilian, as well as a slightly "reverby" quality.  Madagascar Rosewood resonates evenly responsive across the entire tonal register and provides a crisp, sparkling treble.

Adirondack Spruce was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars and has a high stiffness to weight ratio across and along the grain, making it more powerful than other species of spruce, holding up to a stronger pick attack.  Adirondack bracing is another popular upgrade at Artisan.  Being lighter, and stiffer than Sitka Spruce, Adirondack bracing makes the top more responsive making it that much more powerful.

A deep body option is always a welcome upgrade on our custom ordered guitars.  The deeper body provides more bass response, and a bit more volume, due to a larger sound chamber created by the extra depth.
