SOLD: National ResoPhonic Triolian Concert Ukulele

 National ResoPhonic Triolian Concert Ukulele

National's Triolian Ukuleles are reissues of some of the most sought after vintage ukes built by the National Co. in the early 1930’s.  Each has a bound maple neck, hand painted walnut-burst body, and simple paddle headstock.  Each features a black and gold headstock decal and friction tuners by Grover.

Instantly noticed on our wall, this National Triolian Concert Ukulele has a very big voice thanks to National's legendary resonator cone design.  The walnut sunburst finish is simply gorgeous making this ukulele look just like the Triolian guitar's younger sibling.  The steel body produces a bright, clear tone with plenty of volume, ensuring you will be heard in virtually any ensemble.

SOLD: National NRP Concert Ukulele Steel Body

National NRP Concert Ukulele Steel Body

National Ukulele's are hands down the loudest Ukes in the shop. The 5 7/8" resonator cone significantly amplifies the instrument complimenting the mahogany perfectly. This National NRP Ukulele features an all steel body that provides this Uke with a tone that is round, full, warm and loud! The neck is made of mahogany with an unbound rosewood fingerboard.

The Steel Body on this National NRP Ukulele has a rubbed finish. The rubbed finish is desirable for two reasons... It has a vintage look, and it doesn't show fingerprints. For years we have ordered this finish as an option on otherwise highly polished nickel finishes, and it looks good and wears well.

When you pick up a National resonator ukulele and begin playing, you can instantly see the reasons why players prefer Nationals over any other brand of resonator ukulele. The volume and tone delivered by this ukulele almost sounds like it has it’s own rhythm section built in. Even the simplest rhythm passages take on a supercharged quality.

This instrument also features GOTOH’s new planetary ukulele tuners! Experience smooth and stable tuning! With the 1:4 ratio planetary gear mechanism of the UPT/UPTL you can keep the classic look of traditional friction pegs without the slippage or need for tightening.

SOLD: Collings Ukulele UT2 K Koa Tenor Ukulele

Collings Ukulele UT2 K Koa Tenor Ukulele

Handcrafted in Austin, Texas, Collings Ukuleles' are a player's dream and the vintage collectibles of the future.

The UT2 K is Collings' gloss lacquer finish tenor model with increased appointments. With solid Koa top, back and side wood, the UT2 K comes standard with the Collings trademark ''haircut'' peghead shape and ivoroid body binding with black/white purfling.

Collings Ukes also feature a highly innovative tuning system by Pegheds.  These tuners are geared and offer much more control and stability than traditional friction tuners.  The 4:1 gear reduction allows strings to be tuned more easily and accurately than traditional wood pegs (or Caspari-type mechanisms which require screw drivers or special keys). Tune confidently and securely with the left hand while playing open strings; even during performance!  PEGHEDS tuners return the fine-tuning function to pegs. Strings slide more freely over the smooth, wide nut than over the comparatively sharp edge of the bridge, where stress is concentrated and equilibrium of tension on either side is more difficult to achieve.

The craftsmanship is truly unmatched. The sound is full, punchy, resonant with lots of sustain so the notes can be worked with great finesse. It loves vibrato and loves to be played.

SOLD: Collings UT2 Ukulele Custom Mahogany Doghair Finish

Collings UT2 Ukulele Custom Mahogany Doghair Finish

The UT2 is Collings 2-style mahogany tenor ukulele. This custom UT2 comes with the Collings trademark ''haircut'' peghead shape and ivoroid body binding with custom rope purfling. With mahogany top, back and side wood, the beauty of its wood is enhanced by a custom black doghair finish, making this one of our favorite of all the Collings Ukulele models!

The gorgeous custom UT2 features a Doghair finsh,  Ivoroid binding, Ebony fretboard and bridge bindings which bring the looks of this Uke to a whole new level... certainly worthy of taking to the stage with a fancy Manuel suit!

How did Collings produce this gorgeous doghair finish?

Initially the guitar is sprayed black, and then white grain filler is applied. Timing is critical as the filler dries very quickly and excess must be removed while it is still wet. Sanding is out of the question as this would remove the black coat. It is lacquered using polyurethane for the base coat and then nitrocellulose for the latter layers. To accentuate this beautiful finish we have chosen to use a piece of solid carved Mahogany on the top as opposed to the standard Maple. The result is another one of a kind masterpiece from Colling's guitars.

The Mahogany chosen for this particular ukulele has an extremely intense grain pattern so it is an excellent choice for the custom Doghair finish. On close examination we decided to call it a 'Stone Washed' Doghair - kind of like their Faded Cherry, it shows off the grain pattern that Mother Nature created in this very special set of Mahogany!

The tone is all Collings... incredible volume, playability and larger than life uke sound!

SOLD: 2003 Ratliff Soprano Ukulele

 2003 Ratliff Soprano Ukulele

Dan Ratliff built his first instrument in 1971 while a student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, a five course, ten string, Baroque guitar. It was a long time before he made another instrument as he was busy with a career in art, moving to Southern California, going back to college to study science, working as an Engineering Geologist, and pursuing other interests.

A few years ago, while he was building guitars as a hobby, he agreed to build a ukulele for a friend. After playing that first soprano he was hooked, and he's now building ukuleles almost exclusively, and full-time.

This Ratliff soprano ukulele features honey colored, curly koa. The front and back are book-matched, while the sides are one continuous piece interrupted only by the ebony tail inlay. The front and back bindings are vintage look, maple with a black, wood purfling line. The logo and rosette are inlayed in abalone. Abalone fret markers are inlayed at the 3, 5, 7, 10, frets of the ebony fingerboard. The bridge is also ebony and the nut and compensated saddle are made of polished bone.

The mahogany neck is joined to the body at the 12th fret and is reinforced with a carbon graphite rod and is attached to the body using the traditional Spanish heel method. The instrument has several coats of lacquer, which have been hand sanded, and polished to a high gloss finish. Tuners are nickel-plated with antique white buttons.

This 2003 Ratliff Soprano Ukulele is in excellent condition with only a few surface scratches which are barely visible. It has minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.
