Wild Dog Stomps
For more than 20 years, Wild Dog has been building high quality handcrafted stomp boxes from Australian timbers.
Most stomp boxes use an internal piezo pickup system, with a pre-amp and batteries. They tend to sound rather electronic and artificial
Wild Dog stomps use a type of passive micro-phonic membrane with no pre-amp or power supply. The output is extremely high and the tone is all about the range of frequencies captured from the wood.
Whether you are a percussionist, keyboard player, or guitarist, this is sthe sound you've been looking to add to your music.
"Which model Wild Dog is best for me?"... Here are some basic differences to consider.
To jingle or not? The Wild Dog jingles can be switched on & off with a slight turn of the knurled post on top of the jingles, quick and easy. There are some songs best accompanied by jingles (think how a tambourine might add a new dimension). You wouldn't want to use them on every song, but for the right tune, it will definitely get your audience clapping.
Brass jingles sound warmer, less tinny - while the steel jingles have more snap, and cut through a mix. Here is a breakdown of models with Jingles:
- Custom Shop - Steel Jingles
- Blackwolf - Brass Jingles
- Bunyip - Steel Jingles
What about the different woods? As these are powered with an internal micro-phonic membrane, the sound they produce is based on the density of the wood species combined with the sole of your shoe.
Whether toe or heel tapping, leather soles sound slightly different than rubber soled shoes. The subtle difference in tones is owing to wood species.
- Victorian (Australian) Blackwood - dense native wood, produces authentic kick drum tones & frequencies
- Exotic Timbers - highly figured, rare native hardwoods (some reclaimed), producing lowest frequencies in the bass register
No batteries.. no pre-amp.. no need to fuss with external EQ devices.
Just plug and stomp!!
Here's an unsolicited review:
Hi Bill,
I wanted to share my feedback now that I’ve had the chance to use the Wild Dog during a couple of live shows this past Saturday. Feel free to use this review however you’d like.
I purchased the Black Dog from Artisan Guitars on October 28th, 2025, with the help of Bill Warmoth, who was incredibly helpful in guiding me to the right model for my needs. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate both Bill and Artisan Guitars a 20.
The Positives:
1. Looks: It’s beautiful! Even though it sits under my foot on stage, the design is absolutely perfect. The rubber feet keep this stomp right where it is supposed to be..
2. Sound: I’ve used a Porch Board for the past seven years, and this Black Dog simply blows it away. The tone is consistent, rich, and delivers that perfect “thump” when set up as the creator recommends. I honestly can’t imagine anything sounding better.
3. Build Quality: Rock-solid. The craftsmanship is flawless, and I have no doubt this stomp will last for years. The included carrying case is a nice touch and fits easily in my gig bag.
4. Ease of Use: Setup couldn’t be simpler—just plug a ¼-inch cable into your board or amp, set the trim just below clipping, keep everything flat, and you’re ready to jam.
Negatives: None. They nailed it in every category.
Bottom Line: Worth every dollar. On a scale of 1 to 10, this one’s a 20.
