The Maton Custom Shop experience provides you with the opportunity to have a say in the dynamics of the desired sound speaking face-to-face with the craftsman who will build the guitar for you. All timbers selected for Custom Shop guitars are hand picked from Maton’s vast stocks and then thoroughly checked for structural integrity. This ensures that only top quality materials find their way into a Custom Shop guitar. The timber’s visual appeal and tonal quality also form an important part of the selection process. All the chosen components are then individually ‘voiced’ to ensure they can produce maximum acoustic performance. This is done by ‘tap testing’ and flexing each piece to determine maximum strength and minimum weight, the recipe for great tone. It is a process that requires deep experience and construction knowledge and can only be done by an extremely skilled craftsman.
This beautiful Guitar is a custom shop one-of-a-kind traditional model, fully customized with many different Maton appointments. The European Spruce top is very light weight and stiff, and often looks very pale. European Spruce hails from northwest Norway, eastern Poland, the mountains of Central Europe, the western edge of the Alps, the Carpathians and Balkans, and to the extreme north of Greece. The wood tone comes across different than most spruce. European provides a sound rich in overtones, focused, and full of nuance and tone color; a sound often preferred by fingerpickers. It offers a quicker response and greater headroom than Engelmann.
The back and sides are built with Flamed European Maple. This maple gives the guitar great bass response, and a shimmering high end that can cut through any mix. Building with maple back & sides gives the guitar a brighter attack, and provides higher end overtones that will ring out with any sweet chamber or hall reverb.
The beautiful custom appointments of this guitar make the instrument stand out in a full room of instruments. Andy Allen at the Custom Shop together a guitar that includes custom features from many of their already popular custom model instruments. Crafted with a Triple Pinstripe BWBWB inner binding, the guitar gives off that very natural not "over the top" look. The headstock was built based on the WA Style model peghead with an ebony overlay. The Custom Sunburst High Gloss Nitro Finish combined with the pearl block inlays give a royal elegance to an already wonderful guitar.
To mention another amazing feature this guitar has to offer would be Maton's own AP5-Pro pickup system. The AP5 Pro now features Separate Microphone and Piezo input controls allow for blending of both microphone and piezo levels prior to sending the actively combined signals through to the tone circuits and master volume.
Highly selective cardioid microphone system allows for much greater microphone level before feedback in live environments. This newly upgraded microphone is direct mounted to the preamp casing via an adjustable arm, which permits easy final tweaking of microphone position to suit the individual artists style.
