The Maton Custom Shop experience provides you with the opportunity to have a say in the dynamics of the desired sound speaking face-to-face with the craftsman who will build the guitar for you. All timbers selected for Custom Shop guitars are hand picked from Maton’s vast stocks and then thoroughly checked for structural integrity. This ensures that only top quality materials find their way into a Custom Shop guitar. The timber’s visual appeal and tonal quality also form an important part of the selection process. All the chosen components are then individually ‘voiced’ to ensure they can produce maximum acoustic performance. This is done by ‘tap testing’ and flexing each piece to determine maximum strength and minimum weight, the recipe for great tone. It is a process that requires deep experience and construction knowledge and can only be done by an extremely skilled craftsman.
This Jumbo Acoustic is a one of a kind custom instrument with many beautiful appointments mixed together and paired with a classic tonewood combination that will leave any listener captivated. A "AAA" Sitka top gives the guitar a stiff controlled sound. Its combination of strength and elasticity translates into a broad dynamic range, yielding crisp articulation and allowing for everything from aggressive strumming and flatpicking to fingerpicking. Blackwood of the most visually stunning furniture timbers available, Blackwood has also become an important tonewood. Most of the Blackwood comes from the Otway Ranges in Victoria, Australia. It often displays "fiddleback" character and "AAA" grade Blackwood can be intensely
figured. It has a warm, full tone with a particularly pleasing mid frequency response and has become one of the most sought after timbers. It may be of interest to learn, that whenever a Maton employee gets to make their own guitar, they almost always choose Blackwood. It is used in nearly every Maton either as a neck, back & sides, or internal component.
Not only does this guitar stun sonically, it also is visually appealing and includes many custom shop appointments. The headstock was built based on the WA Style model peghead with an ebony overlay, and the Kangaroo inlay that is usually placed on the Tommy Emmanuel models. The Rosette is rounded out from Blackwood, and surrounded by a B/W/B/W/B purfling, with a maple binding around the body.
To mention another amazing feature this guitar has to offer would be Maton's own AP5-Pro pickup system. The AP5 Pro now features Separate Microphone and Piezo input controls allow for blending of both microphone and piezo levels prior to sending the actively combined signals through to the tone circuits and master volume.
Highly selective cardioid microphone system allows for much greater microphone level before feedback in live environments. This newly upgraded microphone is direct mounted to the preamp casing via an adjustable arm, which permits easy final tweaking of microphone position to suit the individual artists style.
