Gibson A5 Flatiron
Gibson, one of the most reknowned guitar companies in the world, were well on their way as guitar & mandolin makers when they acquired the Flatiron Mandolin company in 1987. The Mandolin company was out of Belgrade, Mont., initially with the aim of co-opting the excellent carved-top, F-5 style mandolins that this small outfit had begun to manufacture. All of Gibson’s mandolin manufacturing was moved from Nashville to Bozeman, a larger town near Belgrade where the new facility was to be established, and for a time the Flatiron workshop successfully produced mandolins under both its former and the new Gibson brand names.
This A5 Flatiron made in 2000, was one of the few mandolins that was made in Nashville TN. This A5 artist features a spruce top with maple back and sides, with ebony fingerboard and bridge. The tuners were gold, 4 on a plate engraved with pearloid buttons and the body was bound in Ivoroid. This instrument practically plays itself! Held to the Gibson standard of playing, this mandolin cuts through the mix with a sonic excellence that can fit with a full piece band on stage or with a microphone catching its every note in the studio.
This Pre-Owned Mandolin is in Good Condition, with light scratches throughout the sunburst top, and headstock, light dings near & around the tailpiece, and the tailpiece is tarnished.
