Humphrey Espresso 15 Watt
Humphrey makes amps one at a time in his Chanhassen, Minnesota, shop, and the focus that’s born from such a work style shows. I think that the Espresso looks as much like the work of a very creative chair or furniture builder, evoking the organic and rustic shapes of Danish/West Coast-fusion/1970s furniture designs. And every detail of the construction is unbelievably well executed.
This little amp is not like normal acoustic amps, the Humphrey’s control array isn’t overdone with EQ knobs, pads, or countless special effects. In fact, anyone who can work a Twin Reverb Model is likely to be at ease operating the Espresso 15. Knobs: input volume (or gain), master volume, treble, mid, and bass, and two small toggles activate a horn tweeter and a bright circuit. The tube circuitry includes the power section’s dual EL84s, two 12AU7 preamp tubes, and a 5Y3 rectifier tube. Perhaps the one area where the Espresso has something significantly in common with other acoustic amps is its driver—it’s loaded with a light, 10" neodymium-magnet speaker.
This Model is Pre Owned and features a walnut cabinet with sloped feet. It is in very good condition with some scratches on the bottom, left side, and front left upper edge. The amp is also missing the foot felt on the right front side.
