Huss and Dalton MJ Albert Lee Signature
Albert Lee, also known as "Mr. Telecaster", is known for his groundbreaking vitruostic technique as well as his contribution to so many genres of music.
Albert got his start in 1959 playing mostly R&B, Country, and Rock n Roll. His big break came when he landed the Lead Guitarist gig for Chris Farlowe and the Thunderbirds. Lee has worked with everyone from The Crickets, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton, and was even responsible for the Everly Brothers' 1983 reunion concert and was its musical director. He played regularly with the Everlys for over twenty years!
Lee has received many awards as a guitarist, winning five consecutive times Guitar Player magazine's "Best Country Guitarist". Lee is known within the music industry for his speed of playing and his technical virtuosity.
Huss and Dalton's friendship with the legendary guitar player started 10+ years ago when we were introduced by our UK Distributor, Howard Gillespie. At that time, we built Albert his first Huss & Dalton custom MJ Deluxe. He's played the heck out of that guitar since and recorded his "Highwayman" album with it exclusively.
Then, in 2013, he asked them to build him a custom Model T-0014. We were again thrilled to be working with Albert. Most every year, Albert makes the effort to swing by our booth at the Winter NAMM show to hang out! He's a real crowd-drawer needless to say. At the 2017 show, we discussed at length with Albert about our idea of building the Albert Lee Signature Models and he was keen on it.
Fast-forward to early May 2017 and the first couple of signature models were completed with more in production. Both signature models will be based on these two custom pieces and also a third will be the MJ but in standard woods with his custom specs. Of course, he’s known for his electric playing and man can he still jam! But he’s also a terrific acoustic player. If you have a chance to see and hear him live...don't pass up the opportunity. He's just terrific!
Now...On To The Guitar!
The Huss and Dalton MJ is a powerhouse of a guitar with a massive sound projecting from the Medium Jumbo body. You can go from subtle light strums represented with intimate and delicate accuracy, to a powerful and focused attack that never gets too muddy or unbalanced.
All of the internal bracing is done with hand-split Appalachian red spruce and the braces are radiused to produce a natural curve in the top, reducing built-in stress and altering the tone, reducing bass muddiness and more focused mid-range, which can be a problem with some Jumbo bodied acoustics - though not this one.
The guitar features a Thermo Cured Sitka Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood on the back and sides. This is a classic combination that is highly versatile for many playing styles. Sitka can be played fingerstyle or with a flatpick and can excel at both.
Sitka fits flatpickers who don't require the stiffness of Adirondack, offering more volume and responsiveness from a lighter touch. When combined with rosewood on the back and sides, Sitka is very lush and has a warm, rich low end. When torrefied it provides of the most aggressive and powerful top woods available.
Huss and Dalton's Thermo-Cured Sitka Spruce tops are treated with a unique curing process. The commercial version of this process, known as, “thermo curing”, “wood torrefaction” or “roasting”, was developed in Finland to enhance durability and appearance of other wood materials.
The MJ is ideal for both fingerstyle and those looking for an instrument that frets effortlessly. Often times we come across guitars that almost look too gorgeous to play.
Other Custom Appointments on the Albert Lee Signature include a 1 11/16" Nut Width with a 2 1/8" Saddle Spacing, Soft "V" Neck, T-0014 Style Rosette and Purflings, Ebony Fretboard and Bridge, Albert's Signature @ the 15th Fret, and is finished off with a gorgeous Dark Sunburst Finish.
