1940 Martin OOO 18 Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany

When Martin created the first prototype 000-18 in 1906, then in 1931 created the last 12 fret version, they were stumbling upon a benchmark in acoustic guitar history. This 1940 Martin 000 18 Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany is in good condition with wear as expected from an almost 80 year old instrument. It has lots of small scratches, nicks, marks through out which we have attempted to capture in the detailed photos below. There is minor fretwear and comes with a newer, very nice Hiscox case that will ensure that the Martin OOO-18 stays in great condition.

When it comes to Pre-War Martins, the 000 has always been a popular model. This 1940 000-18 has the wonderful patina and look that draws the Martin fans in.

The scalloped braced Adirondack top is accompanied by Mahogany sides, back and neck, a combination that has been favored by many players and with its age produces a powerful mid to high range tonality that is supported by a crisp low end. This particular 000-18 has an Ebony fingerboard and bridge, which compliment not only the look, but the playability of this pre war.

This instrument has an appraisal from Gruhn Guitars which is provided in the detailed photos below. Gruhn Remarks, "Upon inspection we note that the neck has been reset and refretted and the nut has been replaced. The guitar shows moderate playing wear. It conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made wiht 15 inch wide body, Adirondack spruce top with scalloped bracing, mahogany neck, back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, open back nickel plated tuners, nitrocellulose tortoiseshell grain pickguard and body bindings. This is a fine quality instrument suitable for professional use on stage or in the studio."
