1967 Gibson J 45 Slope Shoulder with Sitka Spruce and Mahogany ID-8972
1967 Gibson J 45 Slope Shoulder with Sitka Spruce and Mahogany
The classic Gibson Slope-Shoulder sunburst model world renowned for it's full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection, thanks to advanced bracing techniques utilized by Gibson at the time. Gibson nicknamed the J-45 their "workhorse" and players such as Bob Dylan and Buddy Holly helped the guitar live up to the name. The J45 guitar is probably Gibson's most popular acoustic guitar ever made. At the time, they were not an expensive or fancy guitar. But they are a good one! The sound of a J-45 is very warm and fat. Playability of the Gibson J-45 is excellent too. This makes the Gibson J-45 one of the best and most popular flattop Gibsons to ever be produced. Also, since the Gibson J-45 guitar was in production for so long, J-45s are easier to find than most any other Gibson flattop model.
The sound from this classic filled the entire shop with classic Gibson tone. The volume produced by this guitar is astonishing, a testament to the wood chosen by Gibson during that era. Balance is maintained no matter how hard you strum it... it just keeps getting louder!
This guitar shows wear consistent with guitars of it's age. There is finish checking throughout with dents and scratches as expected. There are 2 holes beside the sound hole where a previous pickup was installed. The volume and tone knobs do not work. Additionally, there is some overspray on the base of the fretboard where it meets the body. We are not sure if this is factory of aftermarket. We have attempted to capture most of the wear in the detailed photos below. It has moderate fretwear, it includes a hardshell case.
