1972 Martin D 28 Sitka Spruce and Indian Rosewood

The Style 28 Martin guitar has been the mainstream of the Martin guitar line since the late-1800s. Perhaps the most immediate impression conveyed by the standard D-28 in natural is it's simplicity. While Martin has produced some incredible pieces over the years, for the standard Martin D-28 they’ve chosen to largely leave it standard. This unpretentious instrument is built for quality and tone, not eye candy.

The D-28 is the Dreadnought by which all others are judged. Originally constructed of Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and a choice Adirondack Spruce top these are considered the Holy Grail's of guitar building. Since 1969, and the ban on importation of Brazilian Rosewood, the D-28 now is constructed of solid East Indian rosewood. The D-28 has long been a favorite of artists from Hank Williams Sr. to Jimmy Page. Massive bass response balanced with articulate highs makes this a benchmark acoustic guitar and a must-have for any guitaris. This is where you start, or in some cases, this is where you end. This is the be all end all for guitars!

Since its creation in the early 1930s, the D-28 has been constructed using X style bracing. This offers great tone and a responsive soundboard. This style of bracing was developed by the C.F. Martin Company in the mid-19th century. It became a construction standard with the advent of steel guitar strings. These strings required stronger bracing than nylon or catgut strings. This bracing is often credited with helping to create the unique tone and sound of the D-28.

This 1972 Martin D-28 is in good working and excellent sounding condition. The neck was reset by the world renowned Joe Glaser instrument repair in Nashville around 2002. There is some wear, scratches and dents as expected from a vintage instrument. This includes scratches on the fretboard marker, some binding and pickguard separation. Thre are also numerous surface scratches to the top, back, sides and neck. Please review all the wear in the detailed photos below. Additionally, there is moderate fretwear which is also shown. Original Hardshell "Blue" molded Case is included.
