2000 Santa Cruz Custom D-45 European Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood ID-6096
2000 Santa Cruz Custom D-45 European Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood
The Dreadnought: the design that introduced boutique lutherie. In the early 1970's, it was the rare player who would consider any guitar smaller than a dreadnought. Stellar players were handicapped by the traditional D's predominate bass and thin trebles. The strength of the typical dreadnought guitar is in its power and volume, which are achieved by the guitar's large body size. The increased air space also gives the instrument a predisposition to the bass range, an asset to some playing styles and a detriment to others. The Santa Cruz Custom Dreadnought Model was carefully conceived to accommodate the modern player's need for sophisticated balance with more substance in midrange and treble. To deliver these qualities in the acceptable dreadnought-sized body required a very non-traditional approach, as compared to the factory offerings of the day. Using time honored lutherie skills, SCGC created a Trojan Horse - familiar on the outside, dangerous on the inside. SCGC's innovative D Model remains a mainstay of artists who require acoustic volume without compromising the quality of higher frequencies.
This custom Santa Cruz D45 features a beautiful set of straight grained Brazilian Rosewood back and sides paired with an exquisite European Spruce top that does have figuring patterns of Bearclaw behind the bridge. The full 45 style inlays only add to the collect-ability and uniqueness of this phenomenal instrument. The sound is absolutely sublime. The European top provides plenty of power, however, this instrument's power lies in it's subtlety and finesse. Barely touch it and you will be rewarded with a clear bass response that you can feel in your chest. Single note lines are round in profile, yet defined. It is as if the overtones know exactly when to get out of the way of the next overtone! Strummed chordal passages are defined yet lush, a natural by product of the Brazilian back and sides.
This particular Santa Cruz D Model has a unique Tapered bracing with a Scalloped Cross brace on the bass side. This unique bracing pattern allows for a very balanced sound with enhanced bass response that allows for a more versatile tone compared to traditionally braced dreadnoughts.
Not only does this guitar have incredible tone it also features many custom elegant appointments such as an Abalone Rosette, Multicolor Marquetry backstrip, Mahogany Neck with a Custom Vintage Neck Profile and Ivoroid Biding, Ebony fretboard with 45 style inlays and Purfling, Ebony bridge with custom 45 style inlays, Ebony Bridge Pins with Pearl dots, Brazilian Rosewood headstock overlay with 45 style torch inlay, and Gold plated tuners.
