2002 Jose Ramirez R2

Jose Ramirez III spent his life innovating and developing the guitar as a concert instrument. He joined the family workshop at the age of 18 and quickly began experimenting with new techniques and ideas. He was the first builder to use red cedar for the top, which provides a deep, rich tone favored by many classical guitar players. He also developed a urea based varnish which was not only beautiful, but sounded better as well. Modern Ramirez guitars will not have this memorable finish on them, as the lab can no longer accurately reproduce the formula.

This handmade Spanish guitar features a Canadian red cedar top on a laminated rosewood back and sides. The neck is made of Spanish cedar with an ebony fingerboard. Scale length is 26" and the Nut width is a comfortable 2" wide.

These guitars, designed by Jose Ramirez III, are made outside the tiny Ramirez workshop, in limited runs, by carefully selected Spanish manufacturers. The design features of the student Ramírez guitars, both inside and out, including the template, decoration, tone, and the quality of sound and materials, are exclusively Ramirez. They are specifically and uniquely built for Ramírez and although their construction is not directly inspected by Amalia Ramírez, these guitars are finally adjusted in her workshop by her craftsmen, and under her personal supervision.

This classical guitar is perfect for the serious student looking for outstanding sound. Notes are warm and immediate with a smooth, pleasant tone. The 2" nut width provides more than enough room for fingers to chord those complex chord shapes and arpeggios.

This guitar has a few soft dings around the binding, as indicated in the detail photographs. There are some marks on the neck binding, also shown in the photos. Hardshell Humicase included, which features built-in humidifiers.
