2004 Santa Cruz OOO 12 Fret Sitka Spruce and Indian Rosewood

The OOO is the 12-fret predecessor of the OM. If access past the 12th fret is of no concern, the OOO adds some distinct advantages tonally and cosmetically. The extension of the body to the 12th fret adds additional airspace, which translates into increased sound volume and a more predominate bass in the EQ. The slotted peghead is a standard feature that adds classic styling. The peghead’s reduced mass accentuates the guitar’s open, airy ambiance, making it a fingerstyle favorite. You’ve seen the Santa Cruz OOO on stage with Jeff Tweedy and Dave Matthews as a solid performing songwriter’s tool. It has also been heard in numerous recordings as a mainstay of pro session players. You will find immediate purpose for the OOO and wonder why you didn’t have it in your arsenal all along.

This Santa Cruz 000 comes standard with a Sitka Spruce top. Sitka is ideal for players who find Adirondack Red Spruce too punchy, bright, and stiff - but do not want to sacrifice on clarity. Sitka Spruce is a versatile topwood that accentuates the warm round aspects of the guitar's tone. The top end is sweet and crisp; with a driving, focused midrange and low-end. It strums with the best of them, but has a neck that flatpicks beautifully across the board.

The gorgeous set of Indian Rosewood on the back and sides broadens out the dynamic range, bringing overtone rich low-end and mellow yet defined trebles. When fingerpicking, each note is rich and warm, yet well defined and easily articulated.

The comfortable 12 Fret size and timeless appearance of the Santa Cruz 000 is matched by the ease of playing an instrument that suites most any players needs ergonomically. The tone of a typical 000 is balanced and precise, and we've seen it adopted for a wide range of playing styles from the singer/songwriter fair to ragtime solos - but it really sings when used for fingerstyle.

Additional appointments on this guitar include a Ivoroid rosette, ebony fretboard with diamond and square short pattern inlays, scalloped bracing, Nickel Waverly tuners Ebony Buttons and a herringbone top purfling.

The herringbone purfling is a classy visual feature and we find it also adds to the tone and responsiveness of the instrument. By cutting into the outer edge of the soundboard and replacing with herringbone, you are making changes in how the top is isolated from the side of the guitar, how freely it moves and in what direction. In our experience the addition of the herringbone makes the guitar feel a bit more "opened up" right from the start

This Santa Cruz 000 is in excellent condition for a 2004 guitar. It has a few surface only scratches that we have tried to capture in the detailed photos below. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.
