2008 Bourgeois Vintage D Adirondack and "Panama Red" Rosewood

Our last Bourgeois Vintage D sold so fast we are pleased to have this rare specimen on the rack... a 2008 Vintage D with Adirondack on the top and Panamanian "Panama Red" Rosewood on the back and sides. Panamanian Rosewood shares many characteristics of Brazilian without the high dollar price tag, although "Panama Red" is rare as well. It is perhaps most similar to Rosewood, both sonically and visually.

Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern Red Spruce, was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars. Properly sawn, Adirondack is much stiffer than Sitka and Engelmann spruce, both along and across the grain. This allows Dana to make thinner, lighter tops, resulting in lightning-quick response with plenty of power to spare. Most guitar grade "Adirondack" spruce these days comes from Bourgeois' backyard--the state of Maine, which still has large stands of original and second growth softwood forests.

An additional upgrade on this Vintage D is the use of "hot hide glue" on the Adirondack bracing. Hide glue isn't used much in recent years due to the time involved and the mess it creates, but the glue sets up like glass and offers an extremely efficient transfer of energy... and most importantly... tone! To round out the visual package, this Vintage Dreadnought features herringbone top trim, ivoroid body binding, slotted squares and diamonds inlay, premium tortoiseshell pickguard, vintage-style top toner, and nickel Waverly tuners.

This Vintage D has a strong, balanced tone with rich, controlled low end and warm pleasant highs. This midrange is full of resonation without overpowering the highs and lows making for a guitar that is exceptionally balanced without a hint of woofy or harsh tones that can sometimes be associated with dreadnoughts. This guitar also possesses a unique reverby quality on single note leads, it sounds like the ideal amount of studio reverb built right in. As with all Dana Bourgeois dreadnoughts, it is loud and powerful with incredible headroom.

This guitar is in exceptional condition and has only light finish scratches on the pickguard area and a small area of the top. Includes original hardshell case.
