2009 Phil Jones Lower Broad Caster 56 Relic Strat Style
2009 Relic masterpiece Strat by Phil Jones, Master Luthier and charter member of the Gibson Custom Shop. Phil has worked for over 15 years in the Gibson Custom Shop and 5 years with Gruhn guitars restoration shop. Phil might be best known as the prototype builder of the Ace Frehley Les Pauls as well as countless custom designs over the years. Check out the specs on this Phil Jones Lower Broad.
This instrument was created in 2009 using Fender Licensed All parts center seamed, nicely figured, ash body and a vintage 21 fret “C” shaped Maple neck. The guitar is finished using all nitrocellulose lacquer. There is nice aging and checking of the blonde finish, aged single ply pick guard, and knobs.
The neck has tinted nitro finish with a “worn in” neck treatment that make this guitar a joy to play. The radius is 7.25 and has vintage” tall” frets that show little to no wear and has a genuine bone nut. All the nickel parts are convincingly aged in look, but function like new. The Tremolo Bridge is vintage styled using a steel block and “Raw Vintage” brand springs.
Pickups and wiring are a great combination of new and old school. All wiring is vintage cloth except for the pickups which are modern noise free Dimarzio Area 54’s in the neck and middle position with a Dimarzio Area 58 in the bridge. These pickups are known to be very vintage Strat in character but without the hum. Pots are CTS 250Ks with a .047 Vitamin Q Paper in Oil high quality capacitor.
The volume pot has a treble bleed kit to allow lowering of volume with no discernible change in tone or treble roll off. The middle Tone pot is a master tone for all 3 pickups. The rear Tone pot is a blender pot that allows the neck pickup to be gradually blended with the bridge in any position. You can get a nice Tele rhythm tone or just fatten up the bridge a little using this wiring.
The guitar has been set up professionally with “dead on” intonation, string heights, and balanced output pickup adjustments.
This guitar is in excellent condition. It is relic'd and we have provided detailed photos to thoroughly document every inch of this custom Phil Jones guitar.
