Named for the scenic 290 highway that winds past the Collings shop through theTexas Hill Country, the 290 is a modern day tribute to the original working man's rock 'n roll guitar. A solid mahogany body and neck are complimented by two Lollar Soap Bar P90 pickups for a tone that shows off the amazing harmonic range and dynamics of this often underrated configuration.
Each Collings 290 is constructed of solid Honduran mahogany that is acquired, acclimated, and hand selected for density and acoustical response by master luthiers at the Collings shop.
This custom model features a 1959 Faded Crimson Finish, with a Tortoise pickguard and truss rod cover.
Jesse's Two Cents:
"Such an interesting, easy-to-love, inspiring little tone machine! These set neck 290s are so much fun. If I keep my volume knob at 5 or 6, I satisfy all my my favorite mid-level, mildly-overdriven tones, BUT: This pair of P-90s can get snarly and downright nasty, as I crank my volume knob. I always look forward to hearing the fat, spanky response in the low end on these guitars, and this one does not let me down. Ultra-playable C neck, tuning gears like butter, and a flawless crimson finish. Good luck finding a sexier axe than this!"
