Collings 290 Guitar Tobacco Sun Burst with Lollar Gold Foil Pickups and Wraparound Bridge

Here's another great example of the Collings 290 at work. Custom ordered with Lollar Gold-Foil single coils, it is capable of producing a vast array of tones from pristine rich notes with harmonic complexity to hard-hitting vintage rock growls. Dial back the volume and tone, and you'll be surprised by the smooth, mellow sounds that these pickups provide, without ever getting muddy.

Bill Collings is admittedly building some of the finest acoustic guitars that have ever been built. When he decided to take on the challenge of building electric guitars, at the onset, this may have seemed an easier task. After all, electric guitars have no bracing, no acoustic waves to study, and acoustic players are known to be a finicky bunch when compared to our electric brethren. Well, 70 prototypes and a year later, he felt he had finally formulated the electric guitar he would want to build; the 290. In the process he has refined the "traditional" electric guitar in a new light, developing a new standard for fit, finish, innovation, and most importantly tone!

This 290 body is crafted from select piece of dense mahogany that has two well thought out ergonomic cuts on the back of the guitar, one for the area where the guitar rests & conforms to your ribcage (in the waist of the body), and the other in the lower bout to accommodate resting on your knee when sitting down. The leg cutout makes practicing or playing a session easy as it conforms to your leg, and the other, makes standing and playing a gig a pleasure as the guitar fits comfortably against your body.

About the Gold Foil pickups by Jason Lollar - Our Gold Foil is a single coil pickup with unusual clarity and power. Expect crystal clear top end with lots of in-your-face harmonic overtones, and a wide dynamic range that can make a typical tube amp give up the dirt -while retaining all the detail and “3D” you expect from a Lollar. Rubberized ferrite magnet with 44 gauge wire. Single conductor only.

This instrument includes a custom Collings Electric hardshell case.
