Collings CJ Mh SS SB German Spruce Top with Tigerstripe Pickguard

The Collings Jumbo, or CJ, is Collings' version of the classic slope-shouldered dreadnought, a shape that has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years. While the Collings CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional dreadnought, it has a distinctly different tone. Despite its large size this model works well with the optional shorter string scale, resulting in a somewhat percussive bottom end ideal for acoustic blues or other styles that benefit from a more controlled bass response. Of all the Collings body shapes, this is the one most often requested with a sunburst top finish, as this guitar beautifully demonstrates.

Modeled closely after a pre-war J45, the topwood on this guitar is German Spruce. German Spruce is a favorite tonewood here at Artisan due to it's versatility when played fingerstyle or flatpicked. German Spruce offers rich, complex overtones and regarding stiffness, falls in between Sitka and Adirondack. The back and sides are Mahogany, which produces clear, distinct notes and is very well appreciated in the recording studio, as it is known to be a bit more balanced in front of a microphone than rosewood. There is a definite reason, the Slope shoulder design is referred to as the "Workhorse"!

Custom appointments on this Collings CJ Mh are a beautiful Tiger Stripe pickguard, short scale option (24 - 7/8", more traditionally inline with a pre-war Slope Dread), Ivoroid Bindings, and a gorgeous Sunburst Top.
