Collings CJMhSB Sitka Spruce and Mahogany Sunburst

The Collings Jumbo, or CJ, is Collings' version of the classic slope-shouldered dreadnought, a shape that has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years. While the Collings CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional dreadnought, it has a distinctly different tone. Despite its large size this model works well with the optional shorter string scale, resulting in a somewhat percussive bottom end ideal for acoustic blues or other styles that benefit from a more controlled bass response. Of all the Collings body shapes, this is the one most often requested with a sunburst top finish, as this guitar beautifully demonstrates.

The topwood on this guitar is Sitka Spruce, which is very versatile and known for it's lush bass response and easy playability. The back and sides are mahogany, which produces clear and distinct notes and is very well appreciated in the recording studio, as it is known to be a bit more balanced in front of a microphone than rosewood.

Collings makes guitars with such superb tone and aesthetics. The craftmanship is top notch and comes out in the tone, playability, and 0feel of their great instrument. This guitar is truly a great one to add to any players collection.
