Collings Custom 0001E Guitar SS Engelmann and Koa Short Scale

The 12-fret 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but built in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it's the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance. Collings consistently provides us with aesthicially incredible Instruments.

This 000 features a Select Engelmann Spruce top with a Koa back and sides. Additionally, the custom appointments on this guitar include a 1 3/4" Nut Width and a Short Scale.

The choice of Engelmann Spruce is ideal for fingerstylists of those with a bit of a softer hand. There is a tremendous amount of presence in a guitar as easy to articulate as this one. Engelmann is softer then Sitka, and has richer, more complex tone; while being exceptionally responsive.

The short scale length of this instrument relieves significant string tension which makes for a guitar that is almost effortless to play.

Koa is a prized tonewood for both its beauty and influence on sound. Koa produces a warm rich sound – somewhere between the darker sounds that Rosewood guitars produce and the clean bright sound of a Maple guitar. Increasingly, Koa is becoming difficult and very expensive to obtain in master-grade sets.

This wood is likely to see a dramatic rise in price over the next several years. The wood is native to, and only grows on the islands of Hawaii.
