Collings 0003 German Spruce and East Indian Rosewood
The 12-fret 000 has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it's the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume. This makes the Collings 000 ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants a maximum of power from an instrument of comfortable size with an elegant, old-time appearance.
This 0003 features a wonderful German Spruce top. German Spruce provides a rich, complex tone and is perfect for many players who play fingerstyle as well as flatpick. German Spruce is stiffer than Sitka, providing more headroom and power, yet more flexible than Adirondack so that it responds well to a lighter attack.
This allows the guitar to be played fingerstyle while maintaining a high level of comfort, without sacrificing the invaluable headroom offered by a stiffer spruce. Everything that you like about Sitka only more, while still have higher headroom than Sitka - much closer to well worn in Adirondack, with a lovely bass response, and bell like trebles
The set of Indian Rosewood on the back and sides broadens out the dynamic range, bringing overtone rich low-end and mellow yet defined trebles. When fingerpicking, each note is rich and warm, yet well defined and easily articulated.
This particular set of Indian Rosewood is a particularly stunning set, with varying striations of red, violet, purple, light brown to almost black. This combination not only looks absolutely stunning... it sounds incredible.
The tone of this guitar is massive, very deserving of the Collings' name on the headstock. Low end is rich and powerful, while the highs are crystal clear and extremely responsive. The overall sound is loud and punchy and sounds incredibly pure and sweet played softly.
The custom appointments to this Collings 0003 are extensive. Please review the specifications list below.
