Collings OM3 BaaaA Adirondack and Brazilian Rosewood
'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings... yet with an Adirondack Spruce top, flatpickers also find it very appealing with virtually unlimited headroom and power when you need it. This rare version of a Brazilian appointed Collings OM fortuitously arrived here at Artisan Guitars in exceptional condition!
The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and Collings' build style results in balanced tone and an immediate response with a much larger bottom end than is generally found on OM sized guitars.
The top of this guitar is Adirondack Spruce, the stiffest of the topwoods. This makes the guitar have lots of power with virtually unlimited headroom and a lightning fast attack with unmatched clarity and definition.
It’s been more than several years since Collings has built Brazilian guitars for their broader group of authorized dealers. An international trade embargo on Brazilian rosewood products guarantees that the relatively few sets remaining in this country will continue to spiral in price as the supply dwindles. Brazilian Rosewood combines the attributes of the two most common back and side woods, Indian Rosewood, and Mahogany. Brazilian Rosewood is an extremely rare tonewood with deep bass and brilliant trebles that was used on the famous vintage guitars we have all grown to love.
Brazilian Rosewood has the ability to provide lushness of Indian Rosewood, while never sacrificing the individual note clarity you get from Mahogany. Brazilian brings remarkable darkness, depth, and warmth; while exhibiting glorious overtones across the entire tonal spectrum. This guitar is a recording engineer’s dream!
Appointments on this guitar include an Abalone Rosette, 3 Style Chevron Backstrip, Ivoroid Body, Fingerboard, amd Headstock binding, and Gold Waverly Open Gear tuners.
The tone of this special guitar sounds much more like a dreadnought than an OM. Everyone in the shop is floored by the massive tone and projection of this instrument... it's that good! Being an OM it is incredibly well balanced while still retaining the ability to be flatpicked with ease.
This guitar recently made a trip to Collings Factory for a complete setup, buff, and inspection. The folks at Collings said "This OM3 is near as clean as a new one", showing no signs of any wear on the instrument.
As Brazilian Rosewood is in short supply and no one really knows how much will be available in the years to come, this is an instrument that is sure to climb in rarity and value.
This Collings Custom OM3 BaaaA Adirondack and Brazilian Rosewood is in Mint + Condition with no wear to mention.
