Collings CW with Adirondack Spruce top and Cocobolo back and sides
The Collings Winfield is a reissue of the famous Collings Clarence White model. Clarence White lead the way in presenting the acoustic guitar as a lead instrument in bluegrass music. The Collings CW features an enlarged soundhole, bringing more projection, improving the listening experience for both player and audience; and the absence of the tongue brace - which helps bring even more resonance and volume and also Adirondack Braces which are thinner and lighter making the guitar much more resonant and open.
It also features a ebony bridge with 2 1/4 string spacing and a cut-through saddle.
Collings describes the Winfield on their website as: "a highly modified version of our standard dreadnought that features options commonly requested by flatpicking specialists. The combination of the stiff Adirondack spruce top with enlarged soundhole, supported by a top bracing pattern based on the earliest 14-fret dreadnoughts, make the Collings CW a bluegrass powerhouse. Everything about this model is designed to provide plenty of headroom and projection for aggressive playing, but not at the expense of good tone."
Full rich basses are complemented by clear, singing trebles with great clarity and sustain. The enlarged soundhole removes some of the "woofy" basses that so often plague larger instruments, especially in the recording process.
Because of the Cocobolo back and sides this guitar is extremely versatile and shines, both at fingerstyle playing as well as fingerpicking. Warm, lush, yet defined with great note definition.
The enlargement allows you to tailor the sound by placing a mic a bit closer to the soundhole with much less proximity effect, resulting in a more immediate and balanced sound, often heard on Tony Rice recordings. Chordal runs are clear and concise, individual notes are distinct, and single note solos are loud and defined.
The standard CW comes standard with a dalmatian pickguard however this custom CW was built with a tortoise pickguard to match the Cocobolo back and side set. We have included the standard dalmatian pickguard so you can decide which you prefer.
