Collings D1A Adirondack and Mahogany

Similar to Sitka, Adirondack responds well to either a light or firm touch. It has more overall resonance than Sitka. The Mahogany back and sides is much lighter in weight than rosewood, koa, or maple. In spite of its weight, mahogany yields a surprisingly strong loud sound with an emphasis on clear bright trebles.

Although its bass response makes the dreadnought ideal for vocal accompaniment, Collings Adirondack versions are also often employed by bluegrass flatpickers who must compete with inherently louder instruments such as banjos and fiddles.

The square-shouldered 14-fret dreadnought is the most popular steel-string acoustic guitar body shape in the world. While Collings is certainly not the only company to build them, we bring a new tonal clarity to the depth and warmth usually associated with such a large, deep-bodied guitar.

The wide range of woods and neck sizes offered allow dreadnought fans to find a Collings model ideally suited to their playing style and tonal preference.

This standard Collings model, paired with an Adirodack top has continually stayed favorite in our shop and with our customers! Adirondack was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars that has come to be known as the "Holy Grail" of top woods. Adirondack has a high stiffness across and along the grain, making it one of the go-to topwoods for flatpickers!

You can dig in hard with this guitar and it will love it.
