Collings D1A Guitar
with Varnish Adirondack Mahogany and No Tongue Brace
Pre-Owned 2014
Every time we have a Collings D1A in the shop with a varnish finish, it continues to be one of our favorite guitars in the shop. This is a slightly spec'd out and gently used D1A features many of our favorite upgrades.
The venerable Collings D1 features traditional appointments inspired by the D18 of old. Honduran Mahogany graces the back and sides, while the bindings and pickguard are made to match all the same details. Constructed with scalloped Sitka Spruce bracing, the signature sparkle of a Collings dreadnought comes from the modern, tap tuned tops carefully shaped by hand.
Stepping away from the standard D1 model, this gently cared for D1A includes an Adirondack Spruce top, which is starting to break in nicely. Adirondack, with its greater stiffness, makes any dreadnought louder and with a fuller sound. Played hard, an Adirondack top makes for an ideal flatpicking instrument on, and off stage.
Custom ordered with a varnish finish, this D1A is more resonant to our ears. As varnish is thinner than nitrocellulose lacquer, each note blooms while enhancing the low and midrange notes. For as close to a vintage noise, without having to wait a decade, varnish is the ideal option for helping a guitar open up as quickly as possible. For die hard rosewood fans, these options help "bridge the gap" between rosewood and mahogany sounds.
Among the many options Collings currently offer, we often enjoy a guitar without the tongue brace. As people search for the mythical sound of vintage guitars, the tongue brace can limit the breathability of the top near the upper bout. Luckily, this D1A comes without a tongue brace and hardly costs as much as a new one. Don't miss your chance to take home one of our favorite guitars at a fraction of the price!
This is Pre-Owned 2014 Collings D1A with Varnish finish is in Excellent + Condition with no wear to mention. Don't miss your chance to add this beautiful Collings guitar to your collection for a fraction of the price!
