Collings I 35 Deluxe Select Mahogany with Doghair Finish and Parallelogram Inlays

Bill Collings' and his shop in Austin, Texas has been building some of the finest acoustic guitars for decades and has recently turned his attention to electric guitars. The result has been nothing short of astonishing. He has reinvigorated the industry with his take on classic design. The Collings I-35 is their reinterpretation of the semi-hollow body, two-pickup guitar.

While the rest of the industry at large uses pressed plywood for their backs, and bent sides, Collings carves the back and sides from one single slab of Mahogany. This preserves the "look" of a semi-hollow bodied guitar while providing noticeable sonic differences to the player's ears.

This particular guitar has a “Doghair” finish on the entire guitar. This is derived from a white grain filler beneath a translucent layer of dark lacquer – that others have attempted to copy, as yet still a secret known only to our friends at Collings Guitars. The grain of the Mahogany has beautiful specks of white set against the natural luster of the body. This new finish attracts a great deal of attention from visitors to our shop.

To complete the package, this I35 features a Bigsby tremolo bar. The Bigsby, sometimes referred as the Bigsby “horseshoe” is designed for flat top solid body guitars. Attaching via four screws to a guitar’s top, the Bigsby tailpiece is extremely versatile and common on many styles of guitars including SGs, Les Paul Jrs, Telecasters, and Rickenbacker 325s. On this I35, it is incredibly smooth!

The custom Filter’Tron™ style pickup is a humbucker with a unique design with specific characteristics. Its dual-coil pickup design cancels the hum, and with a large 1/4" alnico magnet (twice as large as a “standard” PAF magnet) and larger pole screws, the result is a higher inductance (more power – thicker tone). The Filter’Tron’s bobbins are positioned closer together and wound with less magnet wire for less loss of high end.

TV Jones Filter’Tron™ pickup blends ALL of these traditional characteristics with select, specific top-quality USA-made components. This special recipe gives way to an un-parallelled tone, unique to TV Jones guitar pickups

The mahogany neck is superior quality wood and topped off with a Rosewood Fretboard with Mother of Pearl parallelogram inlays. The profile is a comfortable "C" shape with rounded edges, giving it a wonderful, broken in feel. Leaving no detail untouched, the bridge and tailpiece are Tone-pros locking style, and the Gotoh tuners have grained-ivoroid buttons. You owe it to yourself to come in and plug this guitar into any of our Carr amplifiers and finally stop searching for the "tone", it has arrived!
