Collings MF Full Sheraton Brown Gloss Top Mandolin with Ivoroid Binding
The Collings MF is a world class mandolin with simplified appointments featuring a Sheraton Brown gloss top, a satin finish on the back and sides , and a very complimentary custom ivoroid binding . This beautiful MF has a fully carved Adirondack spruce top and maple back and sides. The Collings MF is built with the same quality construction as other fully-appointed Collings models.
Hand-crafted in Austin, TX, Collings mandolins are built with the finest materials available and with an attention to detail that is second to none. Collings has successfully created a new benchmark of quality mandolins by placing equal emphasis on tone, fit, finish, and playability.
The custom Hand Carved Adirondack Gloss top on this custom Collings MF has been hand selected with the goal of providing excellent clarity and focus with lots of projection and headroom. This is a main ingredient in producing a tone that is unmistakably a Collings Mandolin. The satin finish on the carved Flamed Maple body allows the rich full tone of the instrument to come through and as the instrument ages the Satin finish will show a unique patina.
This Collings MF has a complex tone that is both bell like and meaty. The kind of tone that will find itself at home with both softer pieces of music and all out bluegrass. This particular MF has a meaty tone with lots of punch and a great chop, which will allow this mandolin to hold it's own against resonator banjos and big dreadnoughts alike.
The play-ability of a Collings' mandolin is hard to beat, and this particular instrument is no exception. Lead lines and chords almost play themselves, with the action being measured at 5/64ths of an inch on the G side and 4/64ths of an inch on the high E side.
This mandolin is for the player on the hunt for an instrument with tone reminiscent of some of the most sought after vintage mandolins out there. It is a mandolin for a player looking for durability, reliability, fit, finish, and quality control only found in a newly hand built instrument. It is a mandolin that is a fraction the price of a vintage mandolin and still has the next 100 years to get better. This can be a bit overwhelming, but this is what separates Collings for the rest.
