Collings MTO Oval Hole Mandolin with Tobacco Sunburst satin finish over an Engelmann Spruce top and Red Maple back & sides

Collings MTO is an oval hole A style mandolin featuring an Engelmann Spruce top over Figured Red Maple. The A Style mandolin produces a rich and vibrant tone that is well suited for celtic, old time, classical, and jazz styles, as well as Bluegrass music.

The top and sound hole are bound with tortoise style celluloid. Mother of Pearl (MOP) dot inlays adorn the ebony fretboard, and the the finish is satin nitrocellulose lacquer. Functional appointments on this handcrafted mandolin include a Collings signature nickel tailpiece, and nickel tuners with Ebony buttons.

The MT series mandolins from Collings are built with an Engelmann Spruce top, which is an excellent choice for beginner mandolin players, as well as guitarists. Experienced mandolin players will prefer the traditonal Adirdondack Spruce top, which is substantially stiffer, requiring a heavier string attack to drive the top. The Engelmann top on the MTO responds delightfully well to a light-to-medium string attack.

Also, the oval sound hole provides an range of tonal response, where playing near the bridge can offer a bright, cutting tone and playing over the sound hole will bring out the bass register in a warmer, balanced sweet spot that can only be achieved with an oval hole mandolin. The trebles are smooth and pure, balanced perfectly with the midrange.
