Collings OM1SB Maple Cut Sitka Spruce and Maple with Cutaway and No Tongue Brace
'OM' stands for "Orchestra Model," but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings. Yet flatpickers also find it appealing, and when the graceful cutaway is added these OMs are often used by lead players who routinely explore all 20 frets much as they would on an electric guitar.
The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.
The Maple back and sides provide a stiff and stable tone wood with a loud and bright voice. Highly reflective, Maple balances a tight crisp high end with warm lows.
The custom 1 3/4" nut width which allows our fingerpicking friends to play effortlessly and bend chords easily. The Venetian cutaway allows access to the highest frets with ease, while also adding to the appearance of the guitar.
This guitar was also built with the absence of a tongue brace.
The absence of a tongue brace frees the top to allow enhanced vibration and results in a richer, fuller, tone with more low end resonance. It is speculated that Martin added the brace to prevent top cracking, but the years have proven this to have been unnecessary and actually decreases resonation.
Finished off with gorgeous tortoise body, fretboard and peghead binding, Black /White wood nitrate strip rosette and Black / White wood purfling and 3-style walnut backstrip ,this guitar not only sounds fantastic, it provides a classic style and elegance unlike any other.
