Collings OM2 E SS Engelmann Spruce and Indian Rosewood Short Scale ID-7657
Collings OM2 E SS Engelmann Spruce and Indian Rosewood Short Scale
The OM body size has been favored by fingerstyle players for years, but has made its mark in flatpicking and strumming with its unique clarity and projection. Living up to the pedigree and namesake Collings has established, this OM2 is no exception that is a true delight to play. The body size of the OM lends itself towards a more focused and defined tone than a typical dreadnought size. Yet, the folks at Collings build with volume in mind. The OM2H no doubt represents the defined aspects of the Collings OM; with a crisp, clear tone across the entire spectrum. And as the OM body was designed with balance in mind, the OM2H fits the bill. Yet, there still is a balanced level of projection and volume that Collings may as well put a patent on. The OM2H is a versatile guitar that handles fingerstyle and pop/folk strumming without a hitch.
This guitar features a Engelmann Spruce top with gorgeous Indian Rosewood back and sides. Engelmann is the one of the softest spruces used in guitar making, a quality that lends itself to light playing. As opposed to Sitka, Engelmann Spruce has much broader and stronger overtones, with an effortless response due to its weight. While this guitar may not have as much headroom as a standard 02, it easily makes up for it in responsiveness – a perfect quality for fingerstylists and light players. This sweet little thing has a warm, rich tone with that signature Collings’ volume.
The Indian Rosewood back and sides provides a deep, extended low end when compared to mahogany and certainly shines when combined with Colling's masterfully tuned Engelmann top. This particular set of Indian Rosewood is not only beautiful, it provides a perfect tone and volume for all styles of play. The low end is clear, distinct and incredibly powerful, without sacrificing the strong high end.
The custom Adirondack Braces are lighter and stiffer than Sitka, therefore they are more responsive and offer a more efficient transfer of energy through the top. Additionally, the custom 1 3/4" nut width is more comfortable to play while sitting down, and gives players more room for complex fingerings.
The 24 7/8" short scale makes for effortlessly fretting and string bends that are a breeze. Combining the shortened scale, the custom 1 3/4" nut and the Sitka Spruce top - the combination is a real winner!
