Collings OM2H Guitar Cocobolo and Adirondack

‘OM’ stands for “Orchestra Model,” but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings… flatpickers also find it very appealing as the OM body shape allows for a more balanced tonal fingerprint than a Dreadnought would. No wonder that when Eric Clapton recorded his famous " Unplugged" record, he chose an OM body size!

The compact shape makes the Collings OM2H equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch. The tone is focused and powerful, as are all Collings' guitars.

The custom Adirondack Braces, Cocobolo body, and the absence of a Tongue Brace truly give this OM a wonderful tonal range. With the low end support of the short scale and deep body, you get a very pleasing lower register that compliments the open and articulated aspects of the Adirondack Braces and the absence of the Tongue Brace.

The custom Adirondack Braces are lighter and stiffer than Sitka, therefore they are more responsive and offer a more efficient transfer of energy through the top.

Cocobolo characteristically has poweful low overtones resulting in a complex bottom end. The overall effect is also a bell like tone with clear, slow decaying harmonics. Fast and responsive, it articulate with ample note distinction and a rich low end.

This particular set of Cocobolo has very deep red streaks alternating with lighter red streaks, the robust Red colors are complimented by beautiful contrasting black streaks.

The absence of a tongue brace frees the top to allow enhanced vibration and results in a richer, fuller, tone with more low end resonance. This is a great feature for players who may be looking for a compromise between the mahogany and rosewood dreadnoughts. It is speculated that Martin added the brace to prevent top cracking, but the years have proven this to have been unnecessary and actually decreases resonation.

Other custom appointments include the Cocobolo body, 1 23/32" nut width, Ebony Veneer on the headstock and Nickel Waverly tuners.
