Collings OM2H MR Baked Sitka Spruce and Madagascar Rosewood with No Tongue Brace Pre-Owned 2016
The Collings OM2H MR features a Baked Sitka Spruce top and Madagascar Rosewood back and sides. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the size of the body on this custom model results in a strong and powerful tone with an immediate response and much larger bottom end than is generally found on OM sized guitars.
This guitar possesses all the projection and tonal clarity Collings is known for, while still maintaining a good measure of warmth on the bottom end. The body size of the OM lends itself towards a more focused and defined tone than a typical dreadnought size, in a much more comfortable package.
Baked Sitka Spruce and Madagascar Rosewood is an outstanding combination of tonewoods that is incredibly easy to fall in love with on a guitar such as this Collings. Sitka Spruce is one of our favorite choices for topwood. Sitka Spruce has a stiffness to weight ratio that falls somewhere between Sitka and Adirondack, making it an ideal compromise for many playing styles. Sitka..when baked is stiff enough to handle heavy flatpicking, but also responds very well to fingerstyle players as well.
When combined with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, it produces a lush low end that is clear and powerful. This guitar really shines, with a surprisingly loud voice, impeccable clarity, and that legendary Collings tone.
The custom Adirondack Braces are lighter and stiffer than Sitka, therefore they are more responsive and offer a more efficient transfer of energy through the top. Additionally, the custom 1 3/4" nut width is more comfortable to play while sitting down, and gives players more room for complex fingerings.
In addition to the Adirondack Braces, this guitar was built without a Tongue Brace. As people search for the mythical tone of old guitars, the tongue brace comes into scrutiny. Martin added the tongue brace in 1940 and it has become standard every since. The absence of a tongue brace frees the top to allow enhanced vibration and results in a richer, fuller, tone with more low end resonance.
This is a great feature for players who may be looking for a compromise between the mahogany and rosewood dreadnoughts. It is speculated that Martin added the brace to prevent top cracking, but the years have proven this to have been unnecessary and actually decreases resonation.
This Collings OM2H MR Baked Sitka Spruce and Madagascar Rosewood with No Tounge Brace is in Excellent + Condition with no wear to mention. This guitar was well looked after and taken care of.
